“Agoramana” stops at the act theater on November 15, 16 and 17

After the two very successful theater seasons in Athens and tours throughout Greece, this time the show “Agoramana” comes to Patras.

What will we see on stage? A new mother finds that raising children under conditions of social pressure and incessant “well-intentioned” instructions ends up being an arduous, intensive and lonely job. Is she the only one who feels this way? Is she a bad mother? Why does a woman to be “complete” have to have children? How true is the narrative of family happiness you serve to young people? And what’s up with the men anyway?

Through a very personal style, which combines stand-up comedy, documentary and musical theatre, “Agoramana” explores, chronicles and deconstructs the experiences of parenthood, gradually sheds light on gender roles and boldly unravels the thread of violence against of women*. With its subversive subject matter, the show challenges viewers of all genders and ages to reexamine the systematic impact of social stereotypes and power structures on all of our lives.

Each show hosts a different guest, who integrates into the stage action and contributes with a unique perspective on the themes of the show.

“This load of logistics that mom has on her head is huge! To take a break from what I live, I go to the greengrocer, my friend…”

“Anyway, I’m not having a child with a man again.”

*During the show there are clear references and descriptions around the issue of obstetric violence. If you are a victim of obstetric violence, do not hesitate to seek help and support from certified professionals and agencies.

How does the unique blend of stand-up comedy, documentary, and musical theatre enhance ⁢the storytelling in⁤ “Agoramana”?

**Interview with Director⁤ Iakovos Molymbakis on ⁣”Agoramana”⁢ Coming to Patras**

**Editor (E):** Thank you for joining‌ us today, Iakovos. “Agoramana” has been a ⁣remarkable success in Athens and Greece. What⁣ inspired you ‍and Aphrodite Mitsopoulou to bring this⁣ show to Patras?

**Iakovos Molymbakis (IM):** Thank you for having me! Patras has a vibrant cultural scene, and ‌we felt it was the perfect next step⁤ for “Agoramana.” This ⁢show touches on themes that resonate universally, and ⁤we believe the audience here will find both relatability and engagement in our exploration of motherhood and societal expectations.

**E:** Can you give us a brief overview of the show’s central theme?

**IM:** Certainly! ⁣At its core, “Agoramana” focuses on a new⁤ mother’s struggle with the overwhelming⁢ pressures of parenting in a society that imposes certain ideals on her. It raises critical⁤ questions: Is she a ⁣bad mother for⁢ feeling lost? What does it mean⁤ for a woman to be “complete”? We challenge the narrative of family happiness and look deeper into the roles‌ placed on women and the often-neglected perspectives of fatherhood.

**E:** The show ‌is ⁤described as a mix of stand-up comedy, documentary, and musical theatre. How ⁢does ⁤this unique blend⁤ enhance the storytelling?

**IM:** This combination allows us to approach serious topics with both ‍humor‍ and sincerity. Comedy serves as a way to break down barriers, making it easier to discuss sensitive issues‌ like obstetric⁤ violence and gender roles. The musical aspect adds an⁢ emotional ⁤layer, allowing the audience to ⁣connect‍ with the characters in a more profound way.

**E:**‍ Each performance features a different guest who brings their perspective into the ‍show. How does this add ⁤to the experience for the audience?

**IM:** It’s a dynamic element that keeps ‌each show ⁣fresh and engaging! The guest’s insights not only enrich the dialogue around our themes but also ⁢highlight the⁢ diverse experiences⁣ of parenthood and gender ⁣expectations. It deepens ⁣the conversation and encourages the audience to ⁢reflect on their own lives.

**E:** What do you hope the audience takes away from this performance?

**IM:**⁢ We hope they leave with a sense of connection ‍and understanding. Our goal is for everyone—regardless of gender or ⁣parental status—to reflect on the societal pressures⁤ that shape our identities and roles. ⁣By⁣ addressing these issues openly, we aim to foster ‍a dialogue that can lead to greater empathy⁤ and change.

**E:** any message you’d like to⁣ share with the audience in Patras as “Agoramana”⁣ opens?

**IM:** Yes! We invite ‍everyone to come and experience “Agoramana” with an‍ open heart⁤ and mind. It’s more than just a show; it’s a shared exploration of ⁤the intricacies ⁣of life, relationships, and the pursuit of happiness. We want to hear your thoughts and stories as well!

**E:** ‌Thank you, Iakovos! ⁤We’re looking ⁢forward to the show on November 15, 16, and 17 at Act Theater.

**IM:** Thank you! We can’t wait to see you all there!
