DHL Supply Chain expands air transport and improves distribution of Ford spare parts in Brazil
DHL Supply Chain, a global leader in storage and distribution, intensified and expanded the use of air transport in the distribution of Ford aftermarket parts in Brazil. Now, in addition to urgent deliveries, all distribution to the North Region is also carried out by air, which has brought a significant reduction in delivery times.
With the support of a new subsidiary of DHL Supply Chain close to Guarulhos airport, the operation also improved cargo preparation and dispatch, which reduced damage
In addition to urgent deliveries, the logistics operator already uses air transport to distribute parts to the North of the country
“Brazil has a great tradition of road transport, but, given its size, there are also good opportunities for distribution via air, mainly relying on cargo consolidation and the operational scale of logistics partners such as DHL. We have invested a lot in this area, such as our new branch in Guarulhos which, among other benefits, has a structure for palletizing air cargo and is located less than 10 minutes from the airport”, says Luiz Brunherotto, Transport Director at DHL Supply Chain.
“Ford has a strong focus on customer service and getting parts to dealers quickly is a big priority. By concept, we already serve the North region fully by air, but dependence on commercial aircraft limits service, due to flight availability or capacity. The partnership with DHL brings us greater flexibility and a reduction in the service time that we want to provide to the Ford customer”, says Carlos Laprega, After-Sales Logistics Manager at Ford South America.
The company is also a Ford partner in road transport, serving the entire national territory with end-to-end visibility and proximity to dealerships.
DHL Supply Chain provides a complete solution for the distribution of Ford spare parts in Brazil (road and air), including collection of cargo at the automaker’s Cajamar warehouse, transfer to the DHL Transport Headquarters in Jandira or to Guarulhos and Viracopos airports, and final delivery to dealerships and distributors across the country (last mile). The volume of SKUs managed reaches 40 thousand.
“We also offer two important advantages. Due to our scale, Ford is able to load its cargo on cargo planes on the Manaus route, transporting a greater variety of items. Furthermore, we have direct access to airline systems, providing end-to-end visibility of freight in almost real time”, highlights Luiz Brunherotto.
In road transport (which covers all other regions, with the exception of the North), DHL Supply Chain uses dedicated cars and provides access to its national distribution network, currently with more than 5 thousand vehicles. One of the differences is the express modality that allows agile deliveries over long distances with a lead time similar to air. Also noteworthy is the application of tracking technologies (via the DHL MySupplyChain platform) and smart labels (which facilitate shipment and tracking of cargo).
“We designed this operation to offer a quality experience to dealerships. They can track their orders online and we interact directly with them.
We even carry out visits and make special deliveries if necessary. Everything for really close service”, adds Vanessa Pelintra, Director of Operations at DHL Supply Chain.

How does DHL’s new subsidiary near Guarulhos Airport improve the efficiency of deliveries for Ford dealerships?
**Interview with Luiz Brunherotto, Transport Director at DHL Supply Chain**
**Editor:** Thank you for joining us today, Luiz. DHL Supply Chain has recently expanded its air transport operations for distributing Ford spare parts in Brazil. Can you detail what prompted this expansion?
**Luiz Brunherotto:** Thank you for having me! The decision to expand our air transport capabilities stemmed from our commitment to improving delivery efficiency. Brazil’s vast geography presents unique challenges for logistics, especially in the North region. By using air transport, we significantly reduce delivery times, ensuring Ford dealers receive parts more promptly.
**Editor:** How does the new subsidiary near Guarulhos Airport enhance your operations?
**Luiz Brunherotto:** The new facility allows us to optimize cargo preparation and dispatch. Being so close to the airport, less than 10 minutes away, we’ve improved our operational workflow, and this has notably decreased cargo damage during transit. It also streamlines our processes, enabling quicker turnarounds for urgent deliveries and routine stock replenishments.
**Editor:** Ford specializes in customer service, and quick delivery of parts is a top priority. How does your partnership with DHL enhance their logistics?
**Luiz Brunherotto:** Our partnership with Ford is pivotal. While they have historically relied on commercial aircraft for deliveries, those can be limited by availability and capacity issues. With our dedicated air transport network, we provide Ford with much greater flexibility and significantly reduced delivery times, enabling them to serve their customers better.
**Editor:** Can you elaborate on the full logistics solution DHL provides for Ford in Brazil?
**Luiz Brunherotto:** Certainly! We handle the entire flow of spare parts, from collection at Ford’s Cajamar warehouse to delivery at dealerships across Brazil. Our logistics encompass both air and road transport, managing around 40,000 SKUs. Our strategies include utilizing dedicated vehicles for road transport and a sophisticated system granting near real-time visibility of freight, ensuring transparency throughout the supply chain.
**Editor:** With the challenges of logistics in Brazil, what advantages do you believe your new air transport strategy brings to Ford and the market overall?
**Luiz Brunherotto:** Our air transport strategy offers Ford robust advantages, especially regarding agility and flexibility in delivery. With our cargo plane capacity on routes like those to Manaus, we can carry a broader range of items, enhancing their inventory. Additionally, our access to airline systems ensures that both we and Ford can analyze shipments in real-time, allowing for proactive adjustments and improved service levels.
**Editor:** Thank you, Luiz. It’s fascinating to see how DHL Supply Chain is evolving logistics to meet modern demands.
**Luiz Brunherotto:** Thank you! Exciting times lie ahead, and we are committed to delivering the best logistics solutions for our partners and their customers.
