The growing popularity of Bluesky and the Threads certainly had a little “push” due to the blockade of the X in Brazil. The old Twitter is the 4th social network most used in the country, with around 20 million users.

However, even after the social network was unblocked, its two main competitors continue to grow in the number of users, and this worldwide talking.

Bluesky

Compiled by a statistics website created by one of the social network’s developers, it is possible to see that the platform recently reached the 15 million active users — with a large peak of likesposts, accounts and reposts this month (already after unlocking X).

Threads

The platform of Meta conquered 15 million new users only this month of November, without revealing any more statistics. The information was passed on by Adam Mosserileader of Threads and Instagram, who has been very present on social media lately answering questions about his operating platforms.

However, it is worth clarifying that this growth is not something 100% exclusive to Brazil. These are two emerging platforms bringing constant updates and integrations to make the user experience as pleasant as possible.

So, with the influence of the X blockade in Brazil or not, this continued growth is not something peculiar. It remains to be seen whether both (or any of them) will ever actually threaten X’s supremacy.

How are user behaviors changing in response to the current social media ‌landscape influenced by the⁤ blockade of Twitter/X?

**Interview with‍ Social Media Analyst, Dr. Marina Pacheco, on the Rise of Bluesky and Threads**

**Editor**: Thank‍ you for joining us today, ⁣Dr. Pacheco.⁤ Recently, we’ve seen significant ‍growth⁤ in Bluesky and Threads, especially in Brazil. What‍ would you attribute ‍this surge in popularity to?

**Dr. Pacheco**:‌ Thank you for having me! The rise in popularity of Bluesky and Threads can be linked to‍ several factors, but primarily, it’s a ⁤response to the blockade of Twitter, now known as X, in ‍Brazil. Many users are⁣ seeking alternatives,⁣ and these platforms have stepped up as ‌viable options.⁣

**Editor**: Interesting! Can you elaborate on ⁣how the blockade directly influenced user behavior?

**Dr. Pacheco**: Certainly. When X was blocked, many users were looking for a place to ‍express their thoughts and connect with others. Bluesky and Threads provided an‍ accessible solution. The urgency to find platforms where they could ‍share opinions and participate in conversations led to ⁤rapid user adoption. Bluesky reaching 15 million active‍ users this month reflects this shift.

**Editor**: So, even ⁤with the unblocking⁣ of X, both Bluesky⁤ and Threads continue to grow?⁢ What does that mean for the future of social media in Brazil?

**Dr.‍ Pacheco**: Absolutely. The growth of⁣ these platforms, even post-unblocking, shows that users‍ are appreciating their features and user experiences. This transition⁣ suggests that competition⁣ in⁢ social media is intensifying, and users are increasingly willing to explore new platforms. The key⁣ will ‍be whether they can maintain⁤ engagement long-term.

**Editor**: Bluesky and Threads are actively updating their platforms. How⁤ important are these updates in retaining users?

**Dr. Pacheco**: ⁢Updates are crucial. They signal to users that the platforms are evolving to meet their needs. Features like pinning ⁣posts and online statuses add value to ⁣the user experience. As users become more selective, continuous improvement will be essential to keep⁣ them ⁤interested.

**Editor**: do you think Bluesky and Threads‍ pose⁤ a serious threat to the‌ dominance of X‌ in the future?

**Dr. Pacheco**: It’s difficult to⁤ say definitively. While they are growing rapidly, X still has a⁣ strong user base and brand recognition. However, if Bluesky and Threads continue to innovate and attract users, there’s a possibility⁢ for a shift in social media dynamics. It’s going to be an exciting space to watch!

**Editor**: Thank you, Dr. Pacheco, ‌for your insights on this evolving landscape!

**Dr. Pacheco**: My pleasure! Thank you for having me.
