Vienna’s Research and Brilliance: 33rd Tomorrow’s TOKYO Essay Contest Award Ceremony Concert in Tokyo

Welcome to the 33rd ‘Tomorrow’s TOKYO’ Essay Contest Award Ceremony!

Gather round, oseisens and omagorans of Tokyo! The Tokyo Metropolitan Government has outdone themselves, inviting citizens to the ‘Vienna’s Research and Brilliance’ concert—a veritable smorgasbord of talent, culture, and yes, the occasional bit of bureaucracy. Who knew that winning an essay contest could lead you to an evening of waltzing and orchestras that practically scream, “Yes! This is how you ring in the New Year!”?

Performance Overview

Date and Time

Mark your calendars for January 14, 2017! Because who wouldn’t want to start a Sunday night watching middle schoolers receive awards? The performance starts at 18:30, opening its doors at 17:30. Plenty of time to grab a snack, or, as I like to call it, a pre-concert performance of stuffing your face!

Venue

The distinguished Tokyo Opera City Concert Hall—because you can’t just have a concert anywhere. This isn’t karaoke at your local pub!

Content

The night promises a stunning two-part performance. In the first act, the 33rd ‘Tomorrow’s TOKYO’ Essay Contest awards will be given out! It’s like The Oscars but without the over-the-top dresses—unless that’s your thing, of course. The second half? A performance by the fabled Vienna Strauss Festival Orchestra, celebrating the 200th birthday of J. Strauss II in 2025! Yes, people, we will waltz through time, quite literally!

Featured Performers

  • Conductor/Violin: Willy Büchler (with a name like that, he better know how to conduct!)
  • Soprano: Lauren Urquhart (who promises to hit the high notes without shattering any windows)
  • Baritone: Alexandre Bouchat (a name that sounds like he should come with a good wine recommendation)
  • Orchestra: Vienna Strauss Festival Orchestra (the crème de la crème of classical music)
  • Ballet: Bernardo Ribeiro, Marie Breuil (I mean, who doesn’t love some graceful ballerinas?)
  • Moderator: Natsuko Obayashi (someone to keep the chaos at bay—thank goodness for that!)

How to Get Involved

Want to join the fun? First, you need to live, work, or endure school in Tokyo (sorry, little tykes, preschoolers are a no-go!). There’s room for 1,500 guests, but don’t get too comfy—if the suggestions of the masses exceed the seats, lottery time it is! Yes, that’s right—a game of chance awaits you!

PR Corner—Because What’s a Concert Without a Little Public Relations?

A corner will be set up to showcase Tokyo’s initiatives. You might even get to meet Bosai-kun. If you thought your concert was going to be boring, wait until you see a mascot promoting disaster prevention. Buckle up, Tokyo! Safety first and entertainment second!

So there you have it, folks! An evening of essay awards, world-renowned orchestras, and an opportunity to connect with your city. Plus, who doesn’t love a chance to adopt a pet or get a flyer about healthcare while getting ready to enjoy music? Just think of it as a buffet of civic engagement!

Final Thoughts

Whether you’re there for the brass and strings or to witness the next generation of writers, this concert is set to be an unforgettable experience. Just remember, don’t throw your bra at the performers like they do at pop concerts—this is classical music, after all!

Let the celebrations begin; may they be as dazzling as Tokyo itself!
