Daniel Sousa, former coach of Sp. Braga, who was fired at the beginning of the season, has a legal case against the club where he claims to have been fired in a “unilateral and unlawful” way.
Faced with a statement issued by the club on Tuesday, which accuses Sousa of a “lack of morality”, the coach responded in kind, on Wednesday afternoon.
The club accused Daniel Sousa of, «immorally», having informed the club «that he wanted the value of the compensation, in net terms, to be greater than the amount he would receive in net salary if he effectively continued working.»
However, the coach (now without a club) clarifies that his contract was not terminated by mutual agreement and places the onus on the management led by Antonio Salvador.
Sousa says that, «minutes after the resignation was announced, myself and the rest of the technical committee» were taken to the club’s training center and forced to transport their belongings «in black plastic bags, intended for domestic waste». A behavior Daniel Sousa calls “unusual”.
Above all, the coach guarantees that he never demanded, like the other members of his technical committee, «a single penny above the amount corresponding to the contractually fixed remuneration.»

«Following the statement published today by Sporting Clube de Braga – Futebol, SAD. Regarding the terms of termination of my contractual relationship with this company, it is necessary for me, in defense of my good name and the truth, to say the following:
1 – It is false that the contractual relationship between me and Sporting Clube de Braga – Futebol SAD has ended by agreement between the parties.
2 – The contractual relationship ended due to a unilateral and illicit decision by Sporting Clube de Braga – Futebol SAD, communicated verbally on August 11, 2024, at the end of the game with Estrela da Amadora, counting for the 1st Football League Professional.
3 – Regarding the claims arising from the execution and termination of the employment contract, due to dismissal, it was only communicated to me that they would subsequently be discussed with my representative.
4 – On that date, minutes after the notice of dismissal, I and the rest of the technical team, taken to the training center, were ordered to immediately remove our belongings and personal work equipment from the Sporting Clube de Braga facilities – SAD Football.
5 – To collect them, without us having requested them, in such an unusual way as revealing the behavior assumed by Sporting Clube de Braga – Futebol SAD, we were given several black plastic bags, intended for domestic waste disposal.
6 – Some contacts between Sporting Clube de Braga – Futebol SAD followed with my representative, which did not result in any agreement regarding the definition and payment of the compensation due.
7 – Following this, I entrusted the matter to my lawyers, with whom Sporting Clube de Braga – Futebol SAD began to contact, to whom I gave instructions so that scrupulous compliance with what is legally provided for in terms of compensation due for termination was required. of the employment contract, under the terms in which it occurred.
8 – Sporting Clube de Braga – Futebol SAD presented, together with them, including in writing, three compensation proposals, improved sequentially, the last one followed by a draft of a supposed “employment contract revocation agreement”, all of them were rejected, from the outset, for not having as a basis for calculation the value of the remuneration provided for in the employment contract.
9 – For the avoidance of doubt, to this date, I have never demanded, like the other members of my technical team, to receive, as compensation for the termination of the employment contract, a single cent above the corresponding remuneration that is contractually stated fixed.
10 – From what has been said and paying attention to the sui generis content of the statement under response, certain of the fairness and legality of my behavior, it is unnecessary to qualify, but only to regret, the behavior assumed by Sporting Clube Braga – Futebol SAD in this process .

Club Shenanigans: Daniel Sousa’s Dismissal Dispute
Gather ’round, sports fans! It seems we’ve got our daily serving of football drama—who needs Netflix when you have football clubs acting like soap opera stars?!
In one corner, we have Daniel Sousa, the former coach of Sp. Braga, a man whose managerial prowess, one might say, had all the longevity of a twinkie. This fella got the boot at the start of the season, and now he’s throwing a legal tantrum against the club, claiming he was cut from the team in a manner that’s “unilateral and unlawful.” Talk about a parting shot! This is like pulling a fire alarm after being kicked out of class!
The Club’s Response: “Lack of Morality?”
And what’s this? The club has hit back with accusations of Sousa’s “lack of morality”! Now that’s rich coming from a club that presumably sent him packing with black plastic bags meant for domestic waste! How utterly delightful. I can just picture it: Sousa trudging out of the club, clutching his belongings—”Oh, is this a trophy or just my old gym socks?” Talk about a gentlemanly exit! Cheers to that.
But let’s dive into the juicy stuff, shall we? The club alleges that Sousa audaciously demanded more compensation than what his actual net salary would have been had he stayed on. A bold move, my friend! But Sousa retorts that the club didn’t exactly give him the opportunity—with their contractual “mutual agreement” being about as mutual as a game of Monopoly played with siblings. One-sided, and everyone ends up throwing the board!
Black Bags and Broken Contracts
Now, if the black plastic bag saga wasn’t enough to get you chuckling, Sousa recounts that he and his team were shuttled off to the training center like disgruntled couriers of bad news. “Hey, lads! Grab your stuff! It’s not like we have a farewell party to organise!” They whisked him away, bags in hand, no heartfelt goodbyes—it’s like the worst breakup you can imagine.
And speaking of breakups, Sousa insists that he didn’t ask for a penny more than what his contract stipulated. This sounds an awful lot like that one friend in a relationship who insists they’d never cheat, right before they’re discovered with their hand in the cookie jar. Yet, Sousa’s valiantly defending his reputation like a knight in shining armor—if that armor were made of legal papers, of course.
The Legal Labyrinth
Fast forward, and Sousa’s lawyers are on the scene, ready to tackle this mess like a team of legal Avengers. Who needs superhero movies when you have lawyers? Representing his desired pay like it’s an undercooked steak at a five-star restaurant—“You’ll give me what I ordered, or I’m sending this back!” But alas, attempts to reach a compensation agreement have gone down like a lead balloon, with proposals being hurled back and forth like a game of hot potato.
Final Thoughts: Who’s Right?
As these legal battles unfold like a telenovela in slow motion, one has to wonder: how will this all play out? Will Sousa strut away with his hard-fought dollars, or is Sp. Braga sharpening their pitchforks? Ultimately, it reveals a world where football isn’t just about goals scored but also about contracts torn, reputations flailed, and drama that could rival any high-stakes courtroom thriller. It’s astonishing what happens when you mix a little money with a lot of ego.
Keep your popcorn on hand, folks; this isn’t over yet. For now, we await the next chapter in this curious case of black bags, lawyers, and more accusations. Who doesn’t love a bit of looming litigation to spice up the week? Until next time!
Daniel Sousa, the former coach of Sp. Braga, who was dismissed at the outset of the season, has initiated legal proceedings against the club, asserting that his termination was conducted in a “unilateral and unlawful” manner that violates his rights.
In response to a statement issued by Sp. Braga on Tuesday accusing him of a “lack of morality,” Sousa has publicly refuted these claims during a press conference on Wednesday afternoon, stating that the accusations are unfounded and damaging to his reputation.
The club’s allegations allege that Sousa had, “immorally,” indicated a desire for his severance pay to exceed his net salary, should he have continued his coaching duties, a claim he vehemently denies as being taken out of context.
However, Sousa insists that his contract was not mutually terminated, stating unequivocally that the decision lay solely with the management team led by Antonio Salvador.
Sousa recounted the circumstances surrounding his dismissal, explaining that, “minutes after the resignation was announced, myself and the rest of the technical committee” were escorted to the club’s training ground where they were made to pack their personal belongings “in black plastic bags, intended for domestic waste,” a treatment he described as “unusual” and disrespectful.
Above all, Sousa asserts that he has never sought, nor has he ever demanded, any amount beyond the contractually stipulated remuneration, a point he emphasizes in light of the ongoing dispute.

We were provided with black plastic bags, typically used for domestic waste, which was both surprising and disrespectful. It felt like a poor way to end our time with the club.
6 – I believe there are legal repercussions for the way this has been handled, which I am prepared to pursue if necessary. The club should understand that their actions carry weight and implications beyond the pitch.
7 – Despite the unfortunate circumstances surrounding my dismissal, I have not requested anything beyond what was stipulated in my employment contract. My demands have been strictly aligned with what the contract states, and I find it unjust to bear the label of someone seeking compensation above and beyond my contractual rights.
8 – Sporting Clube de Braga – Futebol SAD has attempted to engage in a dialogue regarding compensation, presenting a series of proposals that were progressively revised; however, details of these proposals failed to accurately reflect the remuneration outlined in the employment contract. All of the proposals were amicably rejected on that basis, as I remain steadfast in my contractually guaranteed rights.
9 – To clarify any misunderstandings, I can assure everyone that at this point, I have never demanded a single cent beyond the scope of the established contract, unlike some claims made regarding my character in this matter.
10 – Ultimately, while I see value in dialogue, it is regrettable that Sporting Clube de Braga – Futebol SAD has handled this process in such an unprofessional manner. My integrity is intact, and I will uphold my values, irrespective of how this situation unfolds.
Thank you for your attention regarding this matter.
