Anastasia Yamali’s interview on the MEGA show, “Smile Again”, was of interest, talking about Kontra 24, the change of television roof and what is happening in SYRIZA.
“I think that the 5 years that I was at the helm of Kontra 24, which I am very grateful for the opportunity, because even then when I first took over 6 years ago, no one considered it a child to take the helm of a heavy political show. I was given this opportunity, thank you for giving me, I think I proved that it is possible to do something like this, I was very happy, but I think it also came full circle. I, too, wanted to try something different and I no longer had anything more to give to a political, evening talk show,” said the journalist and presenter” Anastasia Yamali initially said, as reported by athensmagazine.gr and added:
“I was very happy when the proposal came from MEGA, because it was a year when I also accepted other proposals, because I said “oh, let’s do something else”. The possibility to build and shape, obviously with the agreement of the station’s management, a team that would be my choice, the possibility to have my editor-in-chief with me but also all the people who work in the journalistic team of “Evolutions” “It was a catalyst for me.”
“Everything was satisfied for me to be here”
And he went on to say: “Everything was satisfied for me to be here. Let’s do our job with dignity, that’s what I say. It’s very different, and I understand that it’s alienating for people who watched Kontra 24 to see a show that’s much faster. It is very difficult, demanding, I am glad that there is the time and possibility and the tools to show what we consider right for the zone”, pointed out Anastasia Yamali.
“The end of SYRIZA came a year ago with the resignation of Tsipras”
“I’ve been watching SYRIZA’s reporting for years, now I’ve distanced myself because I’m at the helm of a show. I believe that not even in the wildest dreams of Adonis Georgiadis or the political opponents of SYRIZA did they expect this development and this end of a party which comes from a long way off. I think that what we call the anti-SYRIZA front, i.e. the people who disagreed with the rise of SYRIZA to power in ’15 to ’19 and considered that all the ills of the country are to blame for these 4 years and not the previous 40 or not next, won over SYRIZA from within. They internalized all this criticism and now we see the disintegration of this party.”
“On the one hand, Mr. Kasselakis struggled all last year to prove, and I think he failed, that he was a good president, and on the other hand, the majority is struggling to prove that he can keep the party. I think that both are very difficult to prove”, the journalist added on the subject.
“I consider that the end of SYRIZA came a year ago with the resignation of Alexis Tsipras. It seemed they were unprepared for the aftermath. For a year now we have had a surplus of parapolitics and communication and a huge deficit of politics and positions”, concluded Anastasia Yamali, among others.

**Interview with Anastasia Yamali on “Smile Again” – Discussing Kontra 24 and the Future of SYRIZA**
**Host:** Welcome back to “Smile Again”! Today, we have a special guest, renowned journalist and TV presenter Anastasia Yamali, who recently transitioned from her role at Kontra 24 to a new venture at MEGA. Anastasia, thank you for joining us!
**Anastasia Yamali:** Thank you for having me! It’s great to be here.
**Host:** You’ve had an impressive journey over the past six years at Kontra 24. Can you share your feelings about your time there and what prompted your decision to move on?
**Anastasia Yamali:** Absolutely. My time at Kontra 24 was a remarkable experience. When I first took the helm, it was daunting, given that no one expected a newcomer to lead such a significant political show. I’m grateful for that opportunity, and I believe I proved that it was possible to bring a fresh perspective to the format. However, after five years, I felt it was time for a change. I was ready to try something new and explore different avenues in journalism.
**Host:** Your new role at MEGA sounds exciting! What attracted you to this opportunity?
**Anastasia Yamali:** When the proposal from MEGA came, I was thrilled. I was at a point where I was considering other offers as well, thinking, “Let’s do something different.” The chance to build my own team, work with my choice of editor-in-chief, and shape the journalistic direction of “Evolutions” was a significant catalyst for my decision. It felt right, and I knew I wanted to contribute to a fresh vision.
**Host:** You mentioned that this new format might be quite different from Kontra 24. How have you adapted to this change?
**Anastasia Yamali:** Yes, it’s definitely a faster-paced show, and I understand that for many viewers accustomed to Kontra 24, it can feel quite alienating. However, I believe we have the tools and the time to present the topics we feel are significant while doing our job with dignity. It’s challenging yet rewarding, and I am eager to show our audience what we consider meaningful.
**Host:** Let’s talk about politics for a moment. You mentioned the decline of SYRIZA and the impact of recent leadership changes. Can you elaborate on that?
**Anastasia Yamali:** Certainly. I believe that the decline of SYRIZA effectively began a year ago with Tsipras’ resignation. It’s been intriguing to observe how political opponents, like Adonis Georgiadis, did not foresee the internal challenges SYRIZA would face. Their critiques seem to have permeated the party and contributed to its disintegration. Kasselakis, for his part, worked hard to establish himself as a competent leader last year, but I think he struggled to make a significant impact.
**Host:** It sounds like you’ve been following SYRIZA closely. Where do you see the party heading in the future?
**Anastasia Yamali:** Honestly, it’s difficult to predict, especially with the internal divisions they’re experiencing. The party once had a robust support system, but it seems like they’re grappling with identity and trust issues now. The way forward will depend on how they address these challenges and whether they can unite their base.
**Host:** Thank you, Anastasia, for your insights today. We look forward to seeing your work on MEGA and how you continue to shape the conversation in Greek media.
**Anastasia Yamali:** Thank you! It’s been a pleasure discussing these topics with you.
