The members of the dance team and its orchestra will present a tribute to the Polytechnic through the poetry of Varnalis. Sound, image, poetry combined with choreographies performed by teenagers together with music and songs of anti-fascist content played by the orchestra, literary texts – poems by Kostas Varnalis given by members, friends and collaborators of the dance group as well as characteristic images from material with corresponding content they will dominate.

In the conditions of global terrorism and social fascism, with a violent change in productive relations, imposed by the capitalist system to continue and perpetuate its dominance over the world of work, the event is an expression of honor in the struggle of the Greek people against fascism.

**Interview‌ with Maria‍ Petrou, Artistic Director of the Dance Department of Patras**

**Editor:** Maria, thank you‍ for joining us today. ‌Can‌ you tell us about the upcoming performance “17 November 1973 – 2024” and its significance?

**Maria Petrou:** Thank you ⁣for having me! This performance is a tribute to the Polytechnic uprising, a ⁢pivotal‌ moment in Greek history that symbolizes the fight against oppression. By revisiting this⁤ event ⁤fifty-one years later, we aim to connect ‌the past with today’s‍ social reality through the eyes of children and⁢ adolescents.

**Editor:** That⁣ sounds powerful. How are the young performers‍ involved in this tribute?

**Maria Petrou:** The young dancers and musicians are at the heart of the⁤ performance. ⁤They will interpret⁤ the themes of ⁣the uprising through choreographies that are inspired by Varnalis’ poetry, which beautifully captures the spirit of resistance. Their perspectives bring fresh insights into past struggles ‍against fascism, resonating deeply with contemporary issues.

**Editor:** Can audiences expect to see a mix of⁢ different art forms during the show?

**Maria ⁢Petrou:** Absolutely. We ‌are ⁣blending ‍various art forms—dance, music, poetry, and visual imagery. The orchestra will perform anti-fascist songs that accompany ⁤the choreographed pieces, creating ‌a multi-dimensional experience. This highlights the synergy ⁣of sound and movement,⁣ making ‌the⁣ historical context more relatable to‍ today’s audience.

**Editor:**⁣ The performance will⁣ take place outdoors unless the weather calls for a change ‍of venue. How ⁢does⁢ the location contribute⁢ to the event?

**Maria Petrou:** ⁤The forecourt⁣ of the Choreftiko hall, located by the harbor, ⁤offers a‌ beautiful setting that connects the community to the performance. It’s a public space, allowing everyone to engage with this important ‌historical reflection, and we want to encourage a⁢ communal experience. If we do need⁣ to move indoors due to weather, the intimacy⁣ of the hall will‍ still foster a heartfelt atmosphere.

**Editor:** what do you hope the audience takes ‌away from this performance?

**Maria Petrou:** I hope they leave with a deeper understanding ⁢of‌ our history, the importance of civic engagement, and the realization that the fight against fascism is ongoing. ⁣Through the eyes of the youth, we want ‌to inspire hope and a⁢ commitment to justice, reminding everyone ‍that the echoes of the past ⁤can guide our future.
