Comedian Gary Gulman is set to make a splash with his Off-Broadway debut featuring a brand-new solo comedy show titled Grandiloquent. This highly anticipated performance is scheduled for a limited monthlong engagement at the iconic Lucille Lortel Theatre, kicking off on January 7 and running through February 8, with an official opening night celebration planned for January 19.
Renowned for his standout role alongside Amy Schumer in the popular Hulu series Life and Beth, Gulman’s impressive repertoire also includes five acclaimed stand-up comedy specials, such as The Great Depresh and It’s About Time. His latest special, Born On 3rd Base, not only garnered rave reviews but was also recognized in prestigious Top Ten Best Comedy of 2023 lists published by The New York Times, New York Magazine, and Decider. Beyond his comedy career, Gulman has expanded his writing horizons as the author of the 2023 memoir Misfit: Growing Up Awkward in the ’80s.
In Grandiloquent, Gulman delves into his formative years, candidly sharing how he harnessed the power of reading, writing, and humor as essential tools for coping with the challenges posed by his parents’ mistakes. This reflective journey ultimately paved the way for his remarkable ability to thrive and connect with audiences, particularly in rooms filled with strangers who are laughing at his stories.
“Grandiloquent is the show I got into comedy to do,” Gulman remarked in a statement, underscoring the significance of this production as the culmination of 48 years devoted to refining his skills in reading, writing, and performance.
Guiding the creative vision for this show is Tony Award nominee Moritz von Stuelpnagel, who directs the production. The talented team behind Grandiloquent also includes scenic designer Beowulf Boritt, lighting designer Adam Honoré, and sound designer UptownWorks, ensuring a captivating experience for every audience member.

**Interview with Comedian Gary Gulman on His Off-Broadway Debut, *Grandiloquent***
**Editor:** Gary, thank you for joining us today! Your new solo show, *Grandiloquent*, is set to premiere at the Lucille Lortel Theatre. How does it feel to be making your Off-Broadway debut?
**Gary Gulman:** Thank you for having me! It’s incredibly exciting and a little surreal. Off-Broadway has such a rich history, and to be a part of it, especially in a venue like the Lucille Lortel Theatre, is a dream come true.
**Editor:** You’ve been known for your standout role alongside Amy Schumer and your appearances on various comedy platforms. How does this new format differ for you?
**Gary Gulman:** It’s a completely different challenge. With a solo show, I get to dive deep into my thoughts and stories. There’s no safety net—just me and the audience. The intimacy of the space really allows for a connection that you don’t always get in TV or larger venues.
**Editor:** *Grandiloquent* sounds like a unique title. Can you give us a sneak peek into what audiences can expect from your performance?
**Gary Gulman:** Sure! The title reflects the way I often express myself—trying to be a little more verbose and colorful in my language. The show will explore various themes, from personal anecdotes to social observations, all delivered with my signature blend of humor and warmth.
**Editor:** Your official opening night is on January 19. What are you most looking forward to about that night?
**Gary Gulman:** I can’t wait to share the show with a full audience for the first time. There’s always a mix of nerves and excitement, but I’m really looking forward to hearing their reactions live. That energy is irreplaceable.
**Editor:** Considering the limited month-long engagement, why should folks be sure to see *Grandiloquent* before it wraps up?
**Gary Gulman:** This is a special limited run, and I’ve poured a lot of my heart and experiences into this show. If you enjoy comedy that’s both thoughtful and funny, I think you’ll find something to relate to in *Grandiloquent*. Plus, it’s a chance to experience a truly intimate performance before it’s gone!
**Editor:** It all sounds fantastic, Gary! We wish you the best of luck as you kick off this exciting journey.
**Gary Gulman:** Thank you so much! I can’t wait to see everyone there!
