In England, something impressive happened in the tenth league on Sunday. In the duel with Sunderland West End, Yarm & Eaglescliffe FC turned a lost match into an away win in stoppage time. “It was the craziest football game I’ve ever experienced and I can’t imagine it ever being topped,” Stephen Jackson, coach of the English tenth division club Yarm and Eaglescliffe FC, was quoted as saying by the station “Nova Radio”.
What had happened? In the game between Sunderland West End and Yarm in the Northern League Division Two at the weekend, the hosts appeared to be comfortably leading 5-2 until injury time. But then Yarm and Eaglescliffe FC really woke up: The 3:5 in the 92nd minute seemed to be purely cosmetic, after a penalty a minute later there was hope of winning a point. But that wasn’t all: Thanks to two more goals (94th, 96th), Yarm actually turned the game around and won. It felt “unreal,” said Yarm coach Jackson after the game. “There can be no greater comeback in the history of football.”
