SYRIZA responds to the side of Stefanos Kasselakis who accuses him of leaving dozens of elected delegates out of the crucial conference on Friday (8.11.2024). At the same time, 107 party officials seem to have announced that they are resigning from the Central Committee.
SYRIZA in its announcement speaks of unabashed lies about the allegedly undemocratic exclusion of delegates on the part of Stefanos Kasselakis: “For the first time, the SYRIZA PS Congress Legitimacy Committee received a barrage of complaints before the election process, but also afterwards so many objections in relation to the electoral procedures, the way they were carried out and their exclusion from them.
Indicatively, we list eleven (11) typical cases of irregularities that were attempted in the election of delegates in Member Organizations (OM), from the dozens received by the Delegates’ Legalization Committee.
1. The Commission received an election record from an area where no elections were held, with verified signatures of the members of the electoral body, who did not know that the procedure had been conducted.
2. Misleading the electorate: OM members were informed in writing that there would be no elections in certain areas. Nevertheless, the committee received election minutes.
3. In many OMs, people outside the electoral roll, who are not members of SYRIZA-PS, voted in a percentage of more than 10% (probably they had registered on the Kasselakis platform).
4. Candidate delegates who submitted their candidacies in time, validly and in writing, but were ultimately not included in the ballots, were excluded in OM.
5. In OM, without holding general meetings and giving the opportunity to submit nominations, electoral committees were appointed and ballot papers were drawn up between days.
6. They forbade members of SYRIZA-PS to attend the counting process in Organizations that controlled the electoral committee, despite what the circulars stipulated.
7. In OM without an electoral committee, with only the coordinator present, only 4 members had voted by late afternoon. In the short time that remained until the closing of the ballot box, more than 100 members came to vote, a percentage of over 50%, while a check made on the list of voters showed that a large number were either not members of SYRIZA-PS or belonged to other OMs .
8. Cases were recorded where there was an alphabetical list of voters, that is, it appears that the voters came to vote in absolute alphabetical order, which is impossible to happen and, moreover, without signatures and without payment of the fee.
9. Minutes were sent in which Elected Members are NOT members of the SYRIZA PS and in addition people who were NOT members of the party participated in the vote (in percentages that reached 20%).
10. Elections were held in places that were either not announced, or were held in private places despite the instructions of the Central Organizing Committee of the Conference and the Prefectural Committees to hold elections in the party offices or in public places that were found to be available.
11. Combined cases of the above: It is indicated that in a large Member Organization of Athens, the nomination of a delegate was NOT included in the ballot despite the valid, written declaration of candidacy. A member of the Electoral Committee was NOT a member of the specific Organization. Out of the 5 elected delegates, 3 were NOT members of OM and the other 2 were NOT members of SYRIZA PS. Finally, in the same OM, in the list of voters, more than 10% of non-members of the party were found to be participating in the electoral process.
“Unfortunately, there were also isolated cases of coercion of comrades and companions to the point of violence against party members when they came to exercise their right to vote.”
Are 107 leaving the Central Committee?
107 officials appear to be leaving the Central Committee of SYRIZA with a letter to Rania Svigou, denouncing the “absolutist way of dealing with the current minority of the organ”.
They stress, however, that SYRIZA is “in complete disharmony with the statute passed in 2022”, and state that as executives directly elected by the grassroots, they cannot legitimize the current party.
However, the news is not confirmed by Koumoundourou.

**Interview with Political Analyst Maria Nikolaou on the SYRIZA Conference Controversy**
**Editor:** Welcome, Maria. Thank you for joining us today to discuss the recent developments within SYRIZA leading up to their crucial conference.
**Maria Nikolaou:** Thank you for having me.
**Editor:** As we know, Stefanos Kasselakis has been accused of excluding numerous elected delegates from the upcoming conference. What are your initial thoughts on these accusations?
**Maria Nikolaou:** It’s a significant controversy. Kasselakis’s critics assert that the exclusion of delegates undermines the democratic processes within SYRIZA. The party’s response, which labels the accusations as “abandoned lies,” indicates deep divisions and ongoing tensions.
**Editor:** SYRIZA has mentioned receiving a ”barrage of complaints” about the electoral procedures. What specific issues have been highlighted?
**Maria Nikolaou:** The party has outlined several troubling irregularities. For instance, some election records reportedly came from areas that never held elections, and there are claims of misleading information regarding the electoral process. They also point out that over 10% of votes came from non-members of SYRIZA, which raises serious concerns about the legitimacy of the elections.
**Editor:** That sounds alarming. How might these allegations affect SYRIZA’s unity and future electoral prospects?
**Maria Nikolaou:** If these issues aren’t addressed transparently, they could fracture the party further. The resignation of 107 party officials from the Central Committee signals a significant loss of support for Kasselakis’s leadership. Trust is critical in political organizations, and these allegations could damage SYRIZA’s public image.
**Editor:** Given the gravity of these accusations, what steps should SYRIZA take to resolve this situation?
**Maria Nikolaou:** They need to conduct an impartial review of the election process and address the complaints seriously. Ensuring that all delegates feel represented and that their voices matter will be crucial in restoring trust within the party. Engaging in open communication with all members could also help mend relationships that have been strained by this ordeal.
**Editor:** Thank you, Maria, for your insights on this developing situation. We’ll continue to monitor how this unfolds as the conference approaches.
**Maria Nikolaou:** Thank you for covering this important issue. I look forward to seeing how SYRIZA responds.
