**Interview with Dr. Lucie Tremblay, Head of Research Initiatives at the Directorate General of Health**
**Editor:** Thank you for joining us today, Dr. Tremblay. Can you share the motivation behind relaunching the “Public Health Policies and Interventions” Thesis Prize for its third edition?
**Dr. Tremblay:** Thank you for having me. The motivation behind relaunching this initiative is to continue highlighting and rewarding exceptional research in public health. The first two editions were incredibly successful, and we saw a surge of innovative work from young researchers tackling pressing public health issues. Our goal is to support these talents and encourage more impactful research that aligns with our public health priorities.
**Editor:** What are some key aspects of this prize that set it apart from other academic awards?
**Dr. Tremblay:** One key aspect is our focus on practical applications of research. This prize specifically promotes work that addresses significant public health priorities and links directly to public policy implementation and evaluation. We want to ensure that the research not only contributes academically but also has real-world implications that can improve health outcomes for communities.
**Editor:** This year, you’re awarding a total grant of 10,000 euros to four winners. How will the distribution of funds support these researchers?
**Dr. Tremblay:** We believe that financial support can significantly enhance the researchers’ work and career paths. The prize money can be used for further research, attending conferences, or even facilitating collaborations with other institutions. We hope this grant encourages winners to continue their research endeavors and contribute further to the field of public health.
**Editor:** Can you tell us about the jury selection process for the prize?
**Dr. Tremblay:** Absolutely. The jury is chaired by our Director General and consists of eleven diverse members, including representatives from various health agencies, research organizations, and noted experts in public health. This diversity ensures that we get a comprehensive evaluation of the submitted theses from multiple informed perspectives, ensuring that we recognize truly outstanding work.
**Editor:** When should interested doctoral students expect the award ceremony to take place?
**Dr. Tremblay:** The awards ceremony is scheduled for the fall of 2025. This allows time for thorough evaluation and selection of the winners, ensuring they are celebrated for their achievements on a significant platform at the Ministry of Health and Access to Care.
**Editor:** Thank you, Dr. Tremblay! We look forward to seeing the impactful research that will emerge from this year’s submissions.
**Dr. Tremblay:** Thank you for having me. I’m excited to see what new insights and innovations this next cohort of researchers will bring to public health!
