The deciding factor for the rejection of the S-Link was probably the uncertainty about the underground Salzach crossing because of Seeton, cost risk, etc. But the urgently needed extension of the local railway to Mirabellplatz, for which the financing is now in place and which should definitely have been put out of contention, was apparently buried with a very unfortunate question. At least for this, state politicians should be prepared to take responsibility themselves!
Above-ground replacement projects are now also necessary in the south. For example, a tram through the Alpenstrasse, which leads from a P&R parking lot at the Salzburg-Süd motorway junction via Hellbrunn to the center. If the Rudolfskai and the Staatsbrücke are closed to private traffic, a tram can also be routed via Makartplatz to Mirabellplatz (with a local railway extension) or further to the train station. The Neutor is supposed to be closed anyway and private car traffic can really easily be avoided on the left side of the Salzach from the Nonntaler Bridge to Mülln.
By saying no to the S-Link, a majority in the city of Salzburg simultaneously spoke out in favor of appropriate alternatives and a drastic restriction on car traffic in the city center. City politics and especially Mayor Auinger must deliver now!

**Interview with Transportation Planner Jane Doe on Lafayette Street Bridge Improvements**
**Interviewer:** Thank you for joining us today, Jane. We’re here to discuss the upcoming improvements to the M-13/M-84 (Lafayette Street) bridge detour routes. Can you start by providing an overview of what these improvements will entail?
**Jane Doe:** Thank you for having me. The improvements to the Lafayette Street bridge involve essential upgrades aimed at enhancing safety and traffic flow during the replacement of the bridge. We’re implementing detour routes that will direct drivers away from the construction zone, minimizing congestion in the surrounding areas while ensuring that traffic can continue to move efficiently.
**Interviewer:** That sounds very promising. What prompted these specific improvements at this time?
**Jane Doe:** Well, the Lafayette Street bridge has been a vital artery for local and through traffic, and its condition has warranted replacement to meet today’s safety standards. We’ve received feedback from the community and thorough assessments of traffic patterns indicated that without these improvements, we could face significant delays and risks during construction. It became clear that proper detour routes were essential.
**Interviewer:** How will this construction and the ensuing detours affect local businesses and residents?
**Jane Doe:** We understand that construction can be disruptive, especially for local businesses and residents. We are working closely with them to communicate the changes and durations of detours. Our goal is to keep local access available wherever possible. Additionally, we’re coordinating with local businesses to help them maintain customer access during this time.
**Interviewer:** Regarding the communication aspect, how can residents stay informed about the progress of the project and any further changes that might occur?
**Jane Doe:** We have a dedicated webpage on the Michigan Department of Transportation site where updates will be posted regularly. We’re also utilizing social media and community outreach programs to keep everyone informed. Residents can sign up for alerts via email for any announcements related to the project.
**Interviewer:** Looking ahead, do you think the upgrades to the Lafayette Street bridge will spur further transportation developments in the area?
**Jane Doe:** Absolutely. Improvements like these often create opportunities for future projects. We are continuously looking at how different transport modes can work together, including potential expansions for trams and local railways, similar to what has been discussed for the Mirabellplatz project. It’s all part of an ongoing conversation about efficient and sustainable transportation solutions for our community.
**Interviewer:** Thank you, Jane, for providing those insights. It’s encouraging to hear about the thoughtful planning behind these improvements.
**Jane Doe:** Thank you for having me. We’re excited about these changes and appreciate the community’s patience as we enhance our transportation infrastructure.
