This action opens up support from parties to move together. Currently it involves various communities, volunteers and partners who are committed to sharing. Susi believes that through collaboration we can build wider awareness and understanding about the importance of sharing.
“By doing this together, hopefully we can reduce the crime rate and minimize the hunger rate in the city of Medan,” he said.
The general public, companies and other institutions can participate in this social action. This is done by donating money or food ingredients, such as rice, side dishes, vegetables and cooking spices, which will be used to support distribution operations.
The public can also become volunteers in organizing rice distribution activities at distribution points.
The Monday-Thursday Rice Social Action also opens up opportunities for companies or individuals who want to sponsor activities through funds or food ingredients to support the smooth running of the program. (D-2)

**Interview with Susi Ginting: Head Coordinator of the Rice Social Action Program**
**Editor:** Welcome, Susi! Thank you for joining us today. Can you start by telling us about the Rice Social Action program and how it came to be?
**Susi Ginting:** Thank you for having me! The Rice Social Action program was initiated to support the middle and lower economic communities in Medan. We recognized a pressing need for affordable, nutritious meals, particularly for those struggling economically. Our goal is to provide high-quality lunches at a price everyone can afford—just IDR 2,000.
**Editor:** That’s an incredibly low price for a nutritious meal. How do you manage to keep costs so low while maintaining quality?
**Susi Ginting:** It’s all about collaboration and efficient resource management. We partner with local producers and suppliers who share our vision. By sourcing locally, we reduce costs and ensure that the meals are fresh and nutritious. Volunteers also play a crucial role, helping with the preparation and distribution of the food, which keeps our operational costs down.
**Editor:** Can you describe the impact this program has had on the community since its inception?
**Susi Ginting:** The response has been overwhelmingly positive. We’ve seen a significant increase in the number of people accessing our lunches, particularly from densely populated residential areas. Many families express their gratitude as they find it difficult to prepare healthy meals on a tight budget. This program not only addresses food insecurity but also fosters a sense of community, as people come together during lunch times.
**Editor:** Where can people find you, and what are the operating hours for the program?
**Susi Ginting:** We operate from Monday to Thursday, starting at 11:45 AM. Currently, we have set locations including in front of McDonald’s at OCBC Ringroad and other strategic points throughout Medan. We are always looking to expand to reach more people in need.
**Editor:** What future plans do you have for the Rice Social Action program?
**Susi Ginting:** We hope to expand our service to include more locations and possibly extend our operating days. Additionally, we’re exploring partnerships with local health organizations to provide education on nutrition and healthy eating habits alongside our meals.
**Editor:** That sounds like a fantastic initiative! Thank you for sharing this important work with us, Susi. We wish you continued success with the Rice Social Action program!
**Susi Ginting:** Thank you! It’s been a pleasure talking about our mission. We appreciate all support from the community!
