It is the “red” rescue that Elly was expecting. In 2025 in Campania, however the issue of Vincenzo De Luca’s third mandate ends, the Democratic Party will need all the support possible to avoid sinking under the cross-blows of the center-right and the governor’s civic lists. So the first to enter the competition alongside the Nazarene is the co-leader of the Green and Left Alliance Nicola Fratoianni: «We are against the third mandate even for mayors with less than 15 thousand inhabitants, let alone for regional presidents. Ours is a position that goes beyond De Luca, for us monocratic government positions require a limit of mandates.” Even on the season of government of the President of Campania, Fratoianni does not use half measures: «A political judgment on De Luca’s years in Campania? It’s not positive, – he explains – after all, we have always been in opposition and we have also paid a political price for it. The time has come to present a proposal to govern Campania that is capable of uniting the coalition, and we will work for this with the allies.”

For months in the broad field the most popular name for the De Luca post is that of the former president of the Chamber Roberto Fico, who however is not the only M5S candidate who has some chance, the former minister Sergio Costa is also appearing. Strictly speaking, after the series of nominations received by the Dems, something should go to the Five Star Movement in 2025. It will mainly depend on the relationships that exist between the secretary of the Democratic Party and Giuseppe Conte. Bearing in mind that the other region that will go to the vote is Tuscany, where the dem Eugenio Giani, who has great difficulty in concluding an agreement with the Five Star Movement, should be competing for the second mandate. Reasonably therefore Roberto Fico starts with an advantage but the game is not over. And it will be determined by what the sheriff of Salerno does. That is, if he will be able to challenge everyone to try for a third mandate (together with Italia Viva), or if forced by the possible decision of Giorgia Meloni to challenge the law approved last week by the Regional Council, to support a disruptive candidacy from outside. Perhaps under the banner of a new moderate alliance, the much desired Margherita, with Matteo Renzi and with another “déjà vu”, the mayor of Benevento, Clemente Mastella.

Renzi-De Luca, it's war on Schlein and Sala. Campania is the center's laboratory

The governor has already convinced Enzo Maraio, the secretary of the small Socialist Party: «I appreciate the great effort – he claims – that Elly Schlein is stubbornly making to keep the national center left together also because the politics of vetoes has made us lose many challenges in Liguria and also in other realities. But just as she has taken consistent positions in other parts of Italy, I can only invite Elly Schlein to hold the same position here in Campania: all being together to win starting from Vincenzo De Luca”. A hypothesis of unreality, the secretary will only be able to keep the doors barred to the Governor, who is also tightened by the siege that his “proconsuls” are carrying out: the commissioners Antonio Misiani (regional), Susanna Camusso (Caserta), the deputy Marco Sarracino and the MEP Sandro Ruotolo.

In the Pd house, the hypothesis of a break with Giuseppe Conte is also being examined, and in that case the most “solid” person to ask for a hand in a match that would in any case be desperate is the mayor of Naples, Gaetano Manfredi. A sacrifice that would cost a lot to the mayor, who is much more interested in the Presidency of the ANCI (which will be assigned in Turin in ten days). The sheriff, however, remains fully in the field, and does not miss an opportunity to underline his dissent towards the parent company. Even on the American elections, the former mayor of Salerno pulled the secretary’s ears: «Trump won, it seemed he was going to be overwhelmed by a new image, but he won overwhelmingly, and there is a lesson that also applies to Italy , which we have always adopted and which we also remind the Italian left: the neighborhoods decide, not the living rooms.” Where naturally the living rooms are those of Elly Schlein (perhaps at the home of some singer-songwriter and director), and the neighborhoods are the areas where De Luca’s party is rooted. In short, the fight continues.

**Interview with Nicola ‍Fratoianni, Co-leader of the Green⁤ and Left ⁢Alliance**

**Editor:** Good morning, Nicola. Thanks for joining⁤ us ⁢today.

**Nicola Fratoianni:** Good morning! Thank you for having me.

**Editor:** ‌Your recent comments regarding Vincenzo De ⁣Luca’s potential third mandate as⁣ governor of Campania have stirred quite a discussion. Could you clarify your position ⁣on this?

**Fratoianni:** Absolutely. We are firmly‍ against granting a third mandate ⁤for De⁢ Luca or any⁤ regional president. Our stance is that there should be a ⁢limit to how many times one can hold monocratic positions. This applies⁤ not just to ‍governors ‌but⁣ even to mayors in smaller municipalities.

**Editor:** You mentioned that your decision ⁣is rooted in a broader political⁣ context. Can⁤ you elaborate on that?

**Fratoianni:**‌ Certainly.⁣ Our position goes beyond just a critique of De Luca’s leadership. We believe that his time in office has not benefited Campania as ⁢it should have. We’ve ‍always been ⁢in opposition, and while that has had its costs, it’s ‌crucial⁢ that we now focus on building a strong alternative proposal that can unite our⁣ coalition.

**Editor:** ⁢Many are‍ speculating ⁢about potential‌ candidates to replace De Luca, ‍including Roberto Fico and Sergio Costa‌ from ⁤the M5S. Do you have thoughts on that?

**Fratoianni:** Yes,‌ there are several capable‍ candidates in ‌the mix. Fico, being a prominent figure, surely starts with an advantage. However, it’s also important that we‍ discuss‍ what the‌ Five Star ‍Movement can bring to ‌the ⁤table. The relationship⁣ between⁤ our party and the M5S will⁢ be pivotal as we strategize for the 2025 elections.

**Editor:** There’s ⁢been talk‌ of potential alliances forming, especially concerning new moderate groupings. How do you see the dynamics playing out?

**Fratoianni:** The political landscape is indeed shifting. The prospect of a new moderate alliance signifies that the traditional left-right‌ boundaries may be redrawn. If ⁤De ‍Luca leverages support ‌from figures like Matteo Renzi, it could change the game entirely. We need ‍to be vigilant and adaptable in this evolving scenario.

**Editor:** with the next elections on the horizon, what‍ do you believe is essential for the coalition to⁤ succeed?

**Fratoianni:**⁣ Unity is key.⁤ We ⁣must⁤ come together, set‌ clear goals, and present‌ a viable alternative to De Luca’s administration. It’s about prioritizing the needs of the citizens of⁢ Campania and ‍ensuring their voices are heard in⁢ the ‌political ‌arena.

**Editor:** Thank you, Nicola, for sharing your insights today.⁣ It will be interesting to see how this unfolds⁣ as we approach the elections.

**Fratoianni:**⁢ Thank you for having me!
