Fawad Alam, the talented batsman who piled up the runs of domestic cricket, is waiting for the “look” of Misbah-ul-Haq, the chief selector of the national team for a decade.
The left-handed batsman has not got a chance to play a Test after 2009, an ODI after 2015, and a T20 International match after 2010. 34-year-old Fawad Alam was the strongest candidate to join the Test team after the retirement of Younis Khan and Misbah-ul-Haq in May 2017, but the then chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq instead selected his nephew Imam-ul-Haq in the national team.
Fawad Alam has still not given up despite this attitude and while representing Sindh in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, he showed his mettle by playing a brilliant innings of 100 runs not out against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Fawad Alam has so far scored 11,559 runs at an average of 56.38 in 157 first-class matches, including 31 centuries and 58 half-centuries, and is currently the fourth-highest batsman in the list of cricketers.
Indian batsman Hanuman Vihari, who started his Test career during the tour of England, is first with an average of 60.30, Bangladeshi batsman Mossad Hussain is second with an average of 59.86 and former Australian captain Steve Smith is third with an average of 59.05. .
Fawad Alam’s first-class average is also higher than that of former Australian captain Ricky Ponting (55.90) and Indian captain Virat Kohli (53.55).
He started his Test career in 2009 against Sri Lanka and scored 168 runs in his second innings.
He last represented Pakistan in Test cricket in the Dunedin Test against New Zealand in November 2009, but has not been included in the national Test team since then.
