DOCTOR specializing in sports medicine at Pondok Indah-Bintaro Hospital, Antonius Andi Kurniawan, said there are several things you need to prepare so you can exercise safely and comfortably during the rainy season.

“For weather changes that are very fast, suddenly hot, then raining, we should be alert. The most important thing is that when we want to exercise, we have to make sure and know what the weather conditions are like outside,” said Andi, quoted on Sunday (10/ 11).

Responding to the uncertain weather in the last few days, Andi said that the first thing that every person who wants to exercise should prepare for is a fit health and body fitness.

Then, people need to know the weather and environmental conditions when exercising. For example, air pollution conditions, busy traffic, and the condition of the roads that will be passed so that personal safety can be maintained.

When the weather is rainy and you want to exercise outside, people need to wear a coat or raincoat to protect their bodies from splashing rainwater.

This coat or raincoat is also considered effective in reducing the risk of catching a fever or rain. Apart from that, make sure you wear comfortable shoes so you don’t get injured or slip on the road due to slippery roads.

In fact, he said, people can still exercise without needing to worry. Because many sports can be done indoors during rainy weather. For example, using a treadmill, stretching your muscles or running in place or jumping jacks.

Another option is to go to the fitness center to do muscle strength training.

Then, when the weather becomes very hot, Andi advises people not to forget to bring a drinking bottle to avoid dehydration or a body condition that lacks fluids.

“Then, if possible, have a cold type of drink. So that body temperature does not increase due to heat stroke. Heat stroke can occur when we exercise in hot weather,” said Andi.

Another thing that needs to be prepared, according to Andi, is the type of healthy food consumed, whether vegetables or fruit and foods that contain good protein.

Healthy food consumed, he said, can fulfill the body’s nutritional needs. All of this food also needs to be eaten in a clean condition, both in terms of the ingredients used and the place where the food is eaten.

Andi highlighted that the sudden change in weather causes many health problems, such as lots of standing water which gives rise to bacteria and germs. This increases the risk of illness, so hygiene must be maintained.
