A total of 32 cars are participating in this year’s competition. 24 models are completely new and the remaining 8 are updated versions of the models. They compete in the following categories:
● Electric car of the year;
● Innovation of the year;
● Internet car of the year;
● The safest car of the year;
● Annual 4×4;
● Sportsman of the year;
● Nation’s car;
● Steering Wheel of the Year (this is the category in which the racer is evaluated);
● Steering wheel of the year “Junior” (this is the category in which the young racer is evaluated);
Of course, the title of “Car of the Year” is the most important. According to the innovation introduced last year, even 3 cars will receive it, divided by prices: up to 40,000 euros, from 40,000 to 60,000 euros and over 60,000 euros. This is done in order to evaluate the cars more accurately. The decision is quite logical, considering that both the Dacia Duster and the Porsche Macan Turbo are excellent cars. However, they are chosen by different buyers.

This time, as last year, the Autoplius.lt portal will select three finalists from the nominees who will claim the title of “Innovation of the Year”. True, not all, but only 6 models were nominated for the “Innovation of the Year” title. Here’s which models are in the running and why:
● Alfa Romeo Junior (EV). The model stands out for its extremely light construction. The empty body of the electric car weighs 1485 kg. The light weight of the car improves dynamic characteristics and efficiency. The second innovation is artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, which contribute to more efficient management and greater security. Implemented AI solutions analyze driving style, monitor road conditions and can even predict certain driving scenarios. These technologies not only help reduce fuel consumption, but also provide a more personal and safer driving experience. With a modest 54 kWh battery, the Junior promises to take buyers up to 400 kilometers on a single charge.
● Audi Q6 e-tron (EV). This is a completely new electric car model built on the new PPE platform. This, a joint project between Porsche and Audi, is designed for maximum efficiency and luxury. The platform allows the integration of high-capacity batteries, ensuring a long driving distance and fast charging of up to 270 kW. The PPE base is modular, making it perfect for different body types and optimizing driving dynamics. And in the Q6 e-tron model, this platform helps ensure a high level of maneuverability and comfort, utilizing independent suspension and advanced control systems. The Q6 e-tron also boasts diem exclusive displays. The first one is for the passenger sitting in front only. When it moves, it becomes invisible to the driver. The second is a curved OLED screen for the driver, combining multimedia and instrument panel displays.
● Cupra Tavascan (EV). The innovation of the model is a new type of double circuit liquid cooling system. This system works more efficiently than the previous ones because it controls the heat distribution between the battery, electric motors and electronics, thus ensuring an optimal temperature balance even when the car is used intensively. This helps to maintain stable battery performance and ensure a longer battery life.
● GWM WEY 05. The uniqueness of the recently introduced Chinese-made car is that it has a size never seen in a plug-in hybrid model – a 39.67 kWh battery, with which, according to WLTP calculations, one charge can go up to 146 km. This is the most in the class. The battery is almost the same as the electric car Nissan Leaf (40kWh). The GWM WEY 05 also receives an unusual 50 kW power output for a plug-in hybrid.
● Hyundai Santa Fe. The novelty of the model is a storage box with UV rays. It is unique due to its integrated disinfection function. This storage box uses ultraviolet rays that can kill bacteria and viruses on surfaces, providing an extra layer of hygiene. This feature is especially useful for everyday use where items such as phones, keys and wallets are frequently touched and may contain microorganisms.
● Porsche Macan. One of the new and unique features of the car is the 800 V architecture, which allows the model to accept fast charging. Using this architecture, the electric Porsche Macan can receive up to 270 kW of charging power. This high charging speed allows the battery from 5 percent. up to 80 percent charge in about 25 minutes. This is especially convenient for long trips. Macan also has advanced battery banking technology, which allows the use of a dual battery system. The latter ensures stable energy distribution and efficient heat management.
The Autoplius.lt team has already tested these models and is discussing the verdict. The mission is to select the three most deserving of the “Innovation of the Year” award. From the three selected applicants, the competent commission will choose one, and the winner will be announced on the final election day. The final of “Car of the Year 2025” is November 29 this year.
