A month ago Andreas Schicker moved from Sturm Graz to Hoffenheim. Is the sports director now bringing coach Christian Ilzer to the German Bundesliga? The job is vacant: The day after the 0-0 draw against Augsburg, Hoffenheim parted ways with Pellegrino Matarazzo.
“The fact is that we have nine points after ten games. If you play this average, you are in danger of relegation. That is the average that is not sufficient in the end,” Schicker said immediately after the final whistle at DAZN and added: ” The thing is, we’ll sit down next week and analyze everything. That would have been the plan regardless of the result.”
Wagner and Eichner on the list
Now he needs a plan B for the coaching position. According to “Sky” and “kicker”, Ilzer is one of the candidates. Sandro Wagner, currently assistant to national coach Julian Nagelsmann, and Karlsruhe coach Christian Eichner are also on the list. Both once played for Hoffenheim.

**Interview with Andreas Schicker on the Future of Hoffenheim’s Coaching Position**
**Interviewer:** Thank you for joining us, Andreas. After the recent departure of Pellegrino Matarazzo, many fans are curious about the direction Hoffenheim will take in terms of coaching. Can you share your thoughts on the current situation?
**Andreas Schicker:** Thank you for having me. Yes, it’s a challenging time for us. After our recent draw against Augsburg, it became clear that we need to dissect our performance thoroughly. Nine points from ten games is unfortunately not a sustainable average in the Bundesliga, and we must take that seriously.
**Interviewer:** There are reports suggesting that Christian Ilzer, currently at Sturm Graz, is a candidate for the position. How do you see this?
**Andreas Schicker:** Christian is definitely a talented coach, and he has a strong record with Sturm Graz. That being said, we also have a few other names on our list, including Sandro Wagner and Christian Eichner, who both have ties to Hoffenheim. Ultimately, our decision will involve assessing the right fit for our team and our objectives.
**Interviewer:** What qualities will you be looking for in the new coach to ensure Hoffenheim can avoid relegation?
**Andreas Schicker:** We need someone who can instill confidence in the players, develop a clear tactical approach, and adapt under pressure. The Bundesliga is unforgiving, so we need a leader who can rally the team and turn our performances around.
**Interviewer:** When can fans expect an announcement regarding the new coach?
**Andreas Schicker:** We plan to have our discussions next week, allowing us to analyze everything properly. We’ll aim to make a decision quickly but, most importantly, we want to ensure we make the right one.
**Interviewer:** Thank you for your insights, Andreas. We look forward to seeing how Hoffenheim progresses in this challenging season.
**Andreas Schicker:** Thank you! I appreciate your interest and support.
