The county board of Trøndelag Ap reacts to “organized member transfers”

During the urgently called board meeting on Monday, it was unanimously decided that the county board believes that “organized and collective member transfers” in the nomination process should not occur.

In addition, the board wants changes to the articles of association that regulate such transfers.

The matter in question is an investigation into the transfer of members from Nidaros Social Democratic Forum to other teams in Trøndelag.

Guess I disagree

The local team, led by Trond Giske, has experienced great membership growth in recent years. It has attracted attention that many members have reported transferring to other local teams in Trøndelag.

Giske himself does not agree with the board’s decision.

– I believe that it is completely in line with good organizational practice for members to join the municipal party where they live. It is completely in line with the intention of the statute amendment that the national assembly made last year. So here I simply disagree, says Giske to NTB.

He says the board should rather spend its time on politics.

Deputy leader Emil Raaen of Trøndelag Ap refers to NTB to the unanimous decision from the county board that they believe organized and collective member transfers in the nomination process should not occur.

– If the changes to the articles of association that were adopted at the national meeting in 2023 are the background for the transfers, it would have been natural that these would have come at the time the changes to the articles of association came into force, and not as a result of ongoing nomination processes, he says.

Urgent meeting

On Monday afternoon, it became known that the board of Trøndelag Ap had called an extraordinary board meeting. County leader Ingvild Kjerkol called it “a meeting about organizational matters”. It quickly became known that it was an investigation that had been initiated by the county board and the county office.

The office had collected over 100 pages of feedback and messages of concern. To VG, party secretary Kjersti Stenseng denies that they are involved in the investigation and that the matter is handled by the county team.

– We cannot have a practice where we can participate in nomination processes in different municipal party groups one after the other. It challenges our decision-making structure, and we cannot have it that way, Raaen adds TV 2.

**Interview with⁣ Trond ‍Giske on Recent County Board Decision**

*Editor:*⁤ Thank you for joining us⁣ today, Trond.‌ Your‍ party has been experiencing significant growth, but it‌ seems there’s a⁤ conflict with the county board regarding member transfers. Can you tell us more about what happened during the board⁢ meeting ⁣on Monday?

*Trond Giske:* Absolutely, and thanks for ⁣having me. During ⁤the meeting, the county board ‌unanimously decided that they do⁢ not support “organized and collective member transfers” in⁢ the nomination process. They’re also looking to ⁤amend the articles of association to formally regulate these ‍transfers.

*Editor:* That sounds ‌like a significant decision. What ‍was ⁣the context behind this⁣ discussion?

*Trond Giske:*⁢ The board’s decision stems‌ from concerns about members transferring from the‍ Nidaros Social Democratic Forum⁢ to other local teams in Trøndelag. Our local team has seen remarkable growth, and ⁤it appears some members⁤ are moving in response to ⁤dissatisfaction or disagreements within Nidaros.

*Editor:* You have expressed ‌your disagreement with the board’s stance. ⁤Why ⁢do⁣ you ⁤feel these ⁤member transfers should ‍be ⁣allowed?

*Trond Giske:* I firmly believe that it is good organizational practice for members to be part of‌ the municipal party that ‍represents ‌where they live. It’s about ensuring they have a voice in their local political ‌landscape.⁢ Forcing members to stay in one team could alienate those‌ who genuinely want to get‍ involved in ⁣their local communities.

*Editor:*‍ There are likely concerns about the implications of these transfers for party unity and strategy. What do you say ⁣to those‌ who worry it might ⁢fracture the organization?

*Trond Giske:*⁣ I understand those concerns, but it’s essential to recognize that engagement is key to ⁣maintaining a robust party. Instead of restricting transfers, I think we should focus on building a more inclusive environment that encourages ⁣members to feel connected and valued in ⁢their local⁢ teams.⁢ This way,⁢ we strengthen the‌ party ⁤rather than weaken ‍it.

*Editor:* Looking ahead, what steps do ⁢you ⁤plan to‌ take in light of the board’s decision?

*Trond Giske:* I will continue to advocate⁣ for ‌a more⁣ flexible approach to member transfers. It’s ‌crucial to have an open ‌dialogue, and I plan to work with both the⁢ board and our members to find a solution that honors everyone’s contributions while maintaining our collective goals.

*Editor:* Thank you ⁢for sharing your thoughts with us, Trond. It will be ‌interesting to see how this ⁤situation develops in the coming days.

*Trond Giske:* Thank you. I appreciate the opportunity ‍to discuss this important matter.
