Around 150 EPM officials are working at full speed to restore water, energy and gas services as soon as possible in the Santa Cruz neighborhood where damage to a main pipe of the aqueduct leaves, so far, 211 people affected, 13 homes with structural damage and thousands of people without public services.
The collapse of the 36-inch pipe caused more than 38,000 people in 21 neighborhoods to be without water service and could remain the same until the necessary repairs are carried out. These are the Santo Domingo and Moscow circuits.
The Santo Domingo circuit, with 15,506 users, includes neighborhoods such as Santo Domingo Savio 1, Granizal, Moscow 2, La Salle, San Pablo, El Compromiso, La Esperanza 2, San José La Cima 1, San José La Cima 2, Las Granjas, Oriente, Popular, Santo Domingo Savio 2, Carpinelo, La Avanzada and Aldea Pablo VI.
The Moscow Circuit has 22,908 users and is made up of the neighborhoods, Granizal, Moscow No. 2, Popular, Campo Valdés 2, La Salle, Las Granjas, Santa Inés, Villa Guadalupe, Moscow 1 and Villa Del Socorro. In addition, the Santa Rita de Bello neighborhood also depends on it.
According to the preliminary information provided by EPM, they are currently carrying out repairs to the aqueduct leak in the main network coming from the Manantiales plant. In addition, they will proceed to assess the risk and damage to the infrastructure. pic.twitter.com/hczkFQGsPp

Regarding the electricity service, EPM reported that, to reduce risks and facilitate the work of firefighters and Emvarias, 615 homes have had their service interrupted, which they hope to restore between this Monday and Tuesday.
On the other hand, of the 8,314 customers who were affected by the closure of the gas circuit polyvalves, only 140 homes remain to recover service, especially those that suffered directly from the floods and mud.

“There are two fronts: a technical one, to restore water, energy and gas; and the other is the social one (…) With each family we are going to assess the damages (…) There has to be compensation. It is not leaving them as they were before, it is leaving them in better circumstances than they were. And that has to be a commitment from us, as the Mayor’s Office and as EPM,” said the mayor of Medellín Federico Gutiérrez, referring to care for those affected.
EPM analyzes hypotheses
Although the manager of EPM, Jhon Maya Salazar, has indicated that they are still investigating what could have caused the damage that caused the flood, one of the most likely hypotheses is that it was due to the wear of the main tube.
“It is assumed that this tube could have had wear and tear on its coating due to the time it was there. The acidity, sometimes from the land itself, generates these difficulties (…), but that is something we must analyze in the laboratory,” the official explained.
For its part, the Mayor’s Office of Medellín, through the Presentes Foundation, established a physical donation point located in the Mariano Ospina Pérez auditorium, located on the first floor of the Terminal del Norte (carrera 64C # 78 – 580) and to donation of money provided the following URL:

**Interview with Mayor of Medellín, Federico Gutiérrez, on the Santa Cruz Pipeline Incident**
*Editor*: Thank you for joining us today, Mayor Gutiérrez. The recent damage to the Santa Cruz pipeline has caused significant disruptions. Can you tell us more about the situation and how the city is responding?
*Mayor Gutiérrez*: Thank you for having me. Indeed, the incident that occurred on November 10 has affected many residents in the Santa Cruz neighborhood. We have around 150 EPM officials currently working nonstop to restore water, energy, and gas services. Our priority is to get the main aqueduct repaired as quickly as possible.
*Editor*: It’s reported that over 38,000 people are without water. How is EPM managing the repair efforts?
*Mayor Gutiérrez*: They’re working on two fronts. First, they are focused on the technical aspects of repairing the pipeline and restoring services. Second, there’s a strong social component; we’re committed to assessing the situation for each affected family and providing the necessary support. We’re ensuring this is not just about restoring services but also about improving conditions for those impacted.
*Editor*: What specific measures is the city taking to assist those whose homes have suffered structural damage?
*Mayor Gutiérrez*: For families who have experienced damage, we are conducting thorough assessments. We owe it to them to not only restore their houses but to help them recover in an even better state than before. Compensation will be part of our commitment to them, working alongside EPM and the Mayor’s Office.
*Editor*: how can residents stay updated on the recovery process and services being restored?
*Mayor Gutiérrez*: We are actively communicating with our community through various channels, including social media and local radio. I encourage residents to keep an eye on EPM’s updates and to reach out if they need assistance. We are here to support our community through this challenging time.
*Editor*: Thank you, Mayor Gutiérrez, for your insights and commitment to the community during this crisis.
*Mayor Gutiérrez*: Thank you for highlighting this important issue. We will get through this together.
