At the beginning of July, the soldiers of the special operations of both countries trained to command occupied critical infrastructure in Klaipėda, on the Danė River.
“We would like to continue these exercises, focusing especially on what we talked about yesterday and today – the defense of a strategically important belt, the region – the so-called Suwalki Corridor,” the country’s leader told reporters in Poland on Thursday.
According to G. Nausėda, it was these exercises that were the “interesting offer” mentioned back in June, which he claimed to have received from Polish leader Andrzej Duda.
“At that time, I received a proposal for the possibility of organizing joint military exercises on the eve of the NATO summit, they were aimed primarily at our SOP exercises in Klaipėda,” said the Lithuanian leader.
He emphasized that Lithuania is interested in continuing such military cooperation with neighboring Poland.
For his part, A. Duda claimed that he wanted to organize similar exercises in Poland as well.
“I think we will discuss this issue further,” said the Polish president. “I think that those exercises will be held very soon.”
