**Interview with Gerhard Schmid, Chairman of ⁣the SPÖ Educational Organization**

**Editor:**⁣ Thank you for joining‍ us today, Mr. Schmid. ⁤As⁣ the chairman of the SPÖ educational organization,⁢ you are set to celebrate the 100th Zeittalk on November 14th. Can you tell us what inspired the theme “Securing Democracy – Shaping Democracy” for this event?

**Gerhard Schmid:** Thank you for having me. The theme reflects⁣ our current⁢ global climate, where the resilience of democratic ⁤values is increasingly challenged. We want to engage our audience⁤ in a discussion about how we can not only defend democracy but also actively participate in shaping it for future generations.

**Editor:** With prominent‍ figures like Mayor Michael Ludwig and former Federal President Heinz Fischer⁣ speaking, what message do ‍you hope they ⁤will convey ⁣about‍ the importance of democratic engagement?

**Gerhard Schmid:** Each speaker has a unique perspective based on their extensive experience in public service. I hope they will⁤ emphasize that democracy is not just⁣ a mere system but a ‍collective responsibility. It’s essential for citizens to participate and ensure that their voices are heard.

**Editor:** Following the talks, there will‍ be a get-together at the Vienna Adult Education Center. Why is‍ this social aspect significant ⁤for the event?

**Gerhard Schmid:** The get-together allows attendees to continue the‌ conversation⁤ in a ‌more ‍informal setting. It fosters community and ⁢collaboration among those who care about ‌democracy, facilitating relationships that can lead to future ‌initiatives. ⁢

**Editor:** As we approach this key ‍milestone for the SPÖ, what do you envision as the⁤ next steps for strengthening democratic practices within your organization and beyond?

**Gerhard Schmid:** We aim to implement more educational programs that promote political literacy and active citizenship. The ‌engagement shouldn’t stop at events;‌ it needs to be ongoing and inclusive.

**Editor:** as we encourage public participation in democracy, how do you respond to critics who argue that discussions like these‌ are often limited to elites?

**Gerhard Schmid:** That’s a valid concern. It’s imperative that we democratize these conversations, ensuring diverse voices and perspectives are ‌included. We invite everyone to join us, share their views, and⁣ contribute to the ⁣dialogue.

**Editor:** Thank you, Mr. Schmid. Now, we’d like to hear ⁢from our readers: Do you think discussions surrounding democracy should be more⁢ inclusive, or are they already reaching the right audiences? ⁤Join the conversation in the comments below!
