Who qualifies for the $1,312 payment?
To receive the stimulus, applicants must meet certain criteria for residency and permanence in the state for a specific period, with no intention to move or claim residency elsewhere. Additionally, they must have been present in the state for at least 72 consecutive hours in the last two years.
The program also establishes criminal history requirements, as those who have had serious convictions in the last year or multiple misdemeanors are not eligible. Applications must be completed each year between January 1 and March 31, with an individual registration for each family member, including minors.
Dates and payment methods
This month, the last installment of the program will cover pending payments for 2023. Beneficiaries who have not yet received their check can check their payment status with the authority in charge. In addition, applications in “Eligible-Unpaid” status will be completed on November 21.
Payment can be received via direct deposit, a preferred method for its speed and security. Although recipients can also choose to receive a paper check, this typically takes longer due to the shipping process.
What to expect for next year?
The aid provided by this program will not only be maintained, but will increase to $1,702 in 2024. About 600,000 residents are expected to qualify for this increase in the next year, an amount that represents even greater support in a challenging economic context.
This benefit is part of the Permanent Fund Dividend, an initiative unique to Alaska, created in 1976 to distribute among its residents a portion of the profits from the state’s natural resources, particularly oil.
