UIS Basketball and Volleyball Preview: Home Opener and Key Matchups

The UIS women’s basketball team is set to make its home debut this week, inviting fans to rally behind them, while the men’s basketball squad embarks on an away journey for their upcoming game. In volleyball, the regular season reaches its conclusion as the team hits the road for two pivotal Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) matchups. Unfortunately, both UIS soccer teams experienced early exits from the GLVC tournament on Sunday, Nov. 10. The women’s soccer team suffered a 3-1 defeat against McKendree, while the men’s team fell 3-2 in a gripping overtime match to Maryville.

Thursday, Nov. 14
6 PM – Women’s Basketball vs. Stephens College (HOME)

The UIS women’s basketball team (0-2), having met challenges during their season-opening games on the road this past weekend, will welcome Stephens College (2-2) to the TRAC gym for an exciting home opener. Anticipation is high as this marks the last home event for UIS until both basketball teams host their first doubleheader of the season on Saturday, Nov. 30. To add to the festivities, free pizza will be available for UIS students!

Friday, Nov. 15
5 PM CT (6 PM ET) – Volleyball at Indianapolis

The UIS volleyball team (17-8, 7-4 GLVC) is poised to hit the road for a competitive showdown against the Indianapolis Greyhounds (17-9, 7-4). Historically, UIS trails 3-13 in the all-time series against Indianapolis; however, the teams have evenly split their last four encounters. The Prairie Stars have secured their berth in the GLVC tournament following a significant victory over the No. 18-ranked UMSL, while the Greyhounds will also be competing in the tournament. Currently, the Prairie Stars are riding a wave of momentum, boasting a stellar three-match win streak.

Saturday, Nov. 16
3 PM – Volleyball at Lewis

In their regular season finale, the UIS Prairie Stars (17-8, 7-4) will journey to Romeoville, Illinois, to challenge the Lewis Flyers (18-9, 9-2). Prior to hosting UIS, the Flyers will face Quincy on Friday night. Both teams are poised for the GLVC Tournament, adding extra significance to this match.

3 PM – Men’s Basketball vs. Northern Michigan University

The men’s basketball team from UIS (2-0) is gearing up to travel to Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin, where they will face off against Northern Michigan (2-0). The Wildcats commenced their season with impressive victories over two GLVC rivals, UMSL and Maryville. This matchup is particularly exciting as it marks the inaugural face-off between the two programs.
