CHAIRMAN of the Indonesian General Election Commission (KPU) Mochammad Afifuddin said that the re-election is planned to be held in September 2025.
It is known that this matter has been discussed with Commission II DPR RI. However, the detailed stages will be discussed after the Pilkada process is underway.
“We have discussed this at Commission II. In essence, we will hold regional elections again, the detailed stages of which we will discuss. That is the plan for September 2025,” said Afifuddin to journalists in Batu City, East Java, Saturday (9/11).

Meanwhile, regions that carry out re-elections will be led by regional officials (Pj.).
“But the enthusiasm for the regional elections is that if the winner is an empty box, it will be hastened so that regional elections can be held again,” he said.
Previously, Commission II of the DPR RI with the Ministry of Home Affairs, the General Election Commission of the Republic of Indonesia, the Election Supervisory Board of the Republic of Indonesia and the Honorary Council of Election Organizers of the Republic of Indonesia agreed that the regional elections would be repeated in 2025 if the empty box won against a single candidate.
“In areas where regional elections only consist of one pair of candidates and do not get more than 50 percent of the vote, we agree that regional elections will be held again in the following year, namely 2025, as regulated in Article 54D of Law Number 10 of 2016 concerning Regional Elections,” said the Chair of Commission II DPR RI Ahmad Doli Kurnia Tandjung, Tuesday (10/9).
Furthermore, the RDP decided that Commission II DPR RI would discuss further with the Ministry of Home Affairs, KPU RI, Bawaslu RI, and DKPP RI regarding the KPU Regulations (PKPU) which regulate the holding of regional elections with one pair of candidates at the upcoming working meeting and RDP.
