Welcome to Carballo’s Maelstrom of Music, Magic, and Mayhem!
Ah, Carballo! Where music blooms like an overzealous weed and culture is rolled out thick like jam on toast. November has landed, and it’s packing a punch, or maybe it’s more of a gentle squeeze. Either way, let’s dive into this cornucopia of events!
Kickstarting the Festivities
Last Friday, Carballo kicked off a program as vibrant as a disco ball in a black hole. The documentary “Bravú XXX” premiered amidst much fanfare. It’s the kind of title that makes you think it’ll be raunchy, but it’s probably more wholesome than your Auntie Agnes knitting in a tea shop.
On Saturday, our ears were treated to the melodious tones of the Aires de Bergantiños Choir, celebrating another year of harmonies that would make even a sloth tap its foot. And they’re just warming up, folks! Throughout November, we can expect a buffet of musical delights. Mark your calendars – the A Pedreira concert on the 15th has been touted as a must-see collaboration with the Provincial Council of A Coruña. I mean, if that’s not an enticing reason to brush off the cobwebs and venture out, what is?
Musical Showcase at CMUS
The Professional Conservatory of Music of Carballo has joined the parade. They’ll be flaunting talent like it’s a runway in Paris! Strap in for the trumpet audition on the 12th at 7:00 p.m. – I hope you’ve been practicing your ‘bada-bing, bada-boom!’ because you might need it to handle the tension.
Following the trumpet, we’ve got a guitar audition slated for the 15th. That evening, the Corda Orchestra will perform to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Casa do Concello. And if the thought of a brass audition on the 28th doesn’t tickle your fancy, then I’m not sure what will!
A Dazzling Array of Events
The programming doesn’t stop there! Oh no, there’s more! November 20 will see teachers serenading us at a concert for Santa Icía. The following days will be a kaleidoscope of sounds – jazz clarinet, saxophone auditions, and more cello than you can shake a stick at! It’s like the month is trying to set a record for most instruments played simultaneously. I mean, at some point, a kazoo might just show up for the fun of it!
The Lively Intersection of Theater
But wait! It’s not just music. Theater and magic shows run parallel to all this orchestrated chaos, stretching until December 6. Are you ready for a festival of theatrics that could put Shakespeare to shame? Yes, yes you are!
A new edition of the Live in Cances festival will strut its stuff on the 15th, featuring performances by Mal Juicio and Versión Imposible. I’m not saying it will be impossible to enjoy, but after a couple of Mal Juicio cocktails, anything is possible!
Saturday the 16th promises a plethora of activities, ranging from magic acts to theatrical spectacles in Cances, Lema, and Bértoa. And in what can only be described as a deliciously cheeky twist, the Santa Cecilia Festival will feature choirs that sound like they’ve walked straight off the set of a feel-good musical!
Wrapping Up the Month
As the calendar creeps towards December, we’ll see the theater company Vagalume taking the stage on the 17th, 23rd, and 24th. If you thought a theatrical experience could get stale, clearly, you’ve never witnessed a Vagalume production!
And just to keep you on your toes, Charo López’s exhibition on rural women will open on November 15. After all, who doesn’t want some art alongside all these musical exploits? It’ll be like the cherry on top of a culture cake that’s already brimming with flavors!
Carballo inaugurated its Novembro programming with a lively music presentation last Friday, featuring the premiere screening of the documentary “Bravú XXX,” which delves into the rich cultural tapestry of the region. The celebration continued on Saturday with a special performance marking the anniversary of the renowned Aires de Bergantiños Choir, celebrating its contribution to the community’s musical heritage. The musical festivities promise to resonate throughout the month, showcasing a variety of genres and styles. Notably, the A Pedreira concert, a highlight of the schedule, is set for Friday the 15th, executed in collaboration with the Provincial Council of A Coruña to enhance local cultural offerings.
The Professional Conservatory of Music of Carballo (CMUS) has joined the Council’s vibrant programming for the month, featuring a series of engaging performances. Kicking off the line-up will be a trumpet audition on Tuesday the 12th in the assembly hall at 7:00 p.m. The musical showcases will continue on Friday the 15th with a guitar audition in room 13 at the same hour. Later that evening, the Corda Orchestra will take to the stage to perform in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Casa do Concello at 8:00 p.m., promising an unforgettable experience.
On November 20, a concert featuring esteemed teachers will be held to honor the festival of Santa Icía, exemplifying the artistic community’s commitment to education and celebration. Following this, a jazz clarinet and saxophone audition is scheduled for the next day. The musical month will progress with further auditions including cello on November 25, classical clarinet and saxophone on the 26th, culminating with the brass department audition on the 28th, ensuring a diverse array of musical talent is showcased.
Theater and music
In conjunction with the musical offerings, the program also includes a vibrant array of theatrical and magical performances across the different parishes, extending until December 6. An exciting new edition of the Live in Cances festival is slated for Friday the 15th, featuring performances from the energetic groups Mal Juicio and Versión Imposible, known for their captivating shows.
On Saturday the 16th, a plethora of activities will unfold, including enchanting magic and theatrical performances in Cances, alongside a special theatrical show in Lema and Bértoa. That same day, the Santa Cecilia Festival will be held at the Pazo da Cultura, featuring the harmonious participation of the Ecos do Ulla de Monterroso Choir, the Illa de Arousa Polyphonic Choir, and the Bergantiños Choir, celebrating the rich tradition of choral music. The theater presentation by Vagalume will further enrich the cultural landscape, taking place in A Brea, Oza, and Cances on the 17th, 23rd, and 24th respectively. As a closing highlight, a concert by the Aires de Bergantiños Choir is set for December 6 in Lema. Additionally, on November 15, Charo López’s much-anticipated exhibition focusing on rural women will open at the Pazo, promising to draw attention to important themes within community life.
