Sudan requests Russia’s help in facing Western pressure

Al-Hajj said in a statement to RIA Novosti on the sidelines of the first ministerial conference of the Russian-African Partnership Forum in the city of Sochi: “We hope that Russia will use its influence in the United Nations Security Council so that we can avoid the influence of Western countries that are trying to put a lot of pressure on us, including This includes penalties.”

He pointed out that “Sudan hopes to obtain Russian support in the form of political and humanitarian aid.”

It is noteworthy that Russia had affirmed its principled position on the necessity of an immediate cessation of hostilities and the establishment of a national dialogue that includes all parties in a way that serves to ensure the unity, territorial integrity and sovereignty of Sudan.

Since mid-April 2023, the Sudanese army, led by Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and the Rapid Support Forces, led by Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, known as Hemedti, have been waging a war that has left about 20,000 dead and more than 11 million displaced and refugees, according to the United Nations.

As a result of the conflict, thousands of people were killed and tens of thousands injured. The warring parties held a series of consultations in Jeddah in 2023, while a ceasefire was repeatedly announced between the army and the rapid reaction forces, but none of the agreements reached were fully implemented.

UN and international calls are mounting to end the war in Sudan, thus sparing the country a humanitarian catastrophe that has begun to push millions into famine and death as a result of food shortages due to the fighting.
