Three officers were injured today in Bologna, during clashes with anarchists and antagonists who wanted to prevent the authorized procession of Casapound and Rete dei patrioti. This was announced by police commissioner Antonio Sbordone in a note in which the police headquarters takes stock of today’s three demonstrations in the Emilian capital. The commissioner underlined how the police were attacked, “in a particularly cowardly manner, given the numerical disproportion of the troublemakers compared to the officers, who were subjected to the throwing of bottles, bats and paper bombs”. “Three colleagues were injured and I extend my sympathy to them and wish them a speedy recovery,” Sbordone said.
On two occasions, during today’s march in Bologna, armed anarchists with covered faces attempted to attack the officers, with three who, as mentioned, were injured in the clashes. «The group attributable to the anarchist area, around 200 people, started a procession from Piazza dell’Unità along various streets of the city centre, twice coming across the blockade of the State Police Department. In these phases numerous demonstrators, misrepresented and armed, attempted to attack the officers”, the Police Headquarters bulletin. Reactions of condemnation from the left? Not received.

**Interview with Andrea Rossi, Political Analyst, on Recent Clashes in Bologna**
**Editor:** Thank you for joining us, Andrea. What can you tell us about the events that unfolded in Bologna today?
**Andrea Rossi:** Thank you for having me. Today, Bologna witnessed significant unrest as clashes erupted between police and anarchist groups opposing a procession organized by Casapound and Rete dei Patrioti. Three officers were injured, and the police described the attacks as particularly cowardly, given the numerical disadvantage they faced.
**Editor:** What do you think motivated the anarchists to protest against this authorized event?
**Andrea Rossi:** The motivations are often rooted in ideologies opposing far-right movements. Groups like Casapound represent nationalist and anti-immigrant sentiments that many anarchists view as harmful to social justice and equality. Their demonstration was likely seen as a direct threat, prompting these counter-demonstrations.
**Editor:** How do you assess the response from law enforcement during these clashes?
**Andrea Rossi:** The police were faced with an aggressive group employing projectiles and makeshift weapons. It’s important to highlight the difficult circumstances they operated under. Police Commissioner Antonio Sbordone’s statements reflect the challenges officers face when managing protests, especially when encountering violent opposition. The focus should remain on ensuring safety for all parties while maintaining public order.
**Editor:** What implications do you foresee from today’s events for future protests and police activities in Bologna?
**Andrea Rossi:** Today’s clashes may lead to increased tensions in future protests. Law enforcement might adopt a more fortified presence at such events, possibly escalating the confrontational dynamic between protesters and police. This can perpetuate a cycle of violence unless both sides seek dialogue and understanding.
**Editor:** Thank you, Andrea, for your insights on this troubling situation. It’s crucial to unpack these events and their larger implications for society.
**Andrea Rossi:** Thank you for having me. Let’s hope for calmer dialogues moving forward.
