ALGIERS – The Minister of Tourism and Crafts, Mokhtar Didouche highlighted, Saturday in Algiers, the need to take care of the concerns of artisans and promote crafts so that this sector can contribute effectively to the creation of wealth.

In a speech on the occasion of National Artisan Day, celebrated on November 9 each year, the minister indicated that this day was “an important step” to raise “the concerns of artisans and their support in order to to contribute to the creation of wealth, in implementation of the government’s action plan, resulting from the commitments of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, in this area.

The minister indicated, in his speech, that crafts “is a sector that generates jobs, particularly among young people, with a number of craft activities amounting to nearly 460,000 activities to date, highlighting the importance of the contribution of this field “to the achievement of non-hydrocarbon economic development”.

Mr. Didouche called, on this occasion, the artisans to “contribute to development and to get in tune with the dynamics of development, especially, he said, as they carry the standard of “history and authenticity of a centuries-old nation”, renewing his wishes to them on the occasion of the National Artisan Day which is intended to be “an opportunity to evaluate achievements and what must be achieved in the future , serving crafts and professions in Algeria.

In anticipation of Algeria’s next participation as guest of honor in the 28th edition of the International Crafts Fair, which will be held in Milan (Italy) at the end of next November, the minister urged artisans to be “massively present” at this international event, in order to “valorize and highlight the riches of Algeria and the diversity of its tangible and intangible heritage.”

For his part, the president of the National Chamber of Crafts and Trades, Mohamed Hichem Nait Rabah, praised the achievements made in the field of crafts by craftsmen throughout the national territory, who “work to “work hard to promote and improve the quality of craftsmanship, preserve national identity and authenticity, as well as the tangible and intangible heritage of Algeria.”

He underlined on this occasion the importance of this sector, given the “products and services it offers and the employment opportunities it creates for the benefit of young creators, in addition to its contribution to the protection of national heritage” .

Note that during this ceremony, which was attended by the Minister of Vocational Training and Education, Yassine Merabi, the Minister of Culture and Arts, Ms. Soraya Mouloudji, as well as executives from different sectors concerned , a host of creative artisans, including artisans with specific needs, were honored.
