With significant innovations and simplifications, citizens are invited from today to submit this year’s personal income tax returns.
In more detail, as announced by AADE:
• For the first time, individual E3 codes are pre-filled, with the possibility of modification, based on the data transmitted to the myDATA digital platform.
• The Settlement Form and statements E1 and E2 have been redesigned, so that they are easier to fill out.
• A new table of E1 shows separately the amounts of expenses with electronic means, which are deducted from the income or are calculated twice to form the required amount of expenses with electronic means of payment.
• Taxpayers with dependent children fill in the child’s last name, as well as their Identity Card Number, if it has been issued, in special fields.
• The process of submitting an income tax return for foreign residents has been simplified.
• New codes have been created for the granting of exemption from income tax in the case of cooperation of natural persons, whose main occupation is farming.
It is noted that the codes created for the exemption from the obligation to pay the business tax of businesses that in the tax year 2022 increased by at least three twelfths the average number of their full-time employees in relation to the previous tax year, will remain temporarily inactive and will be pre-filled by AADE, as soon as the information is transmitted from the ERGANI information system of the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs.
AADE will immediately inform the beneficiaries by email as soon as the relevant information is available for them. In addition, offsets and tax refunds, as well as payments of amounts, are further accelerated, as follows:
• Income tax refunds to taxpayers who do not have tax or insurance debts or an awareness obligation, will be sent to the Bank of Greece for immediate refund on a weekly basis.
• Income tax refunds to taxpayers who do not have insurance debts or awareness obligation and have tax debts, will be centrally offset on the first and third ten days of each month, starting from the end of April. Those offsets that cannot be carried out centrally, will be processed as soon as possible by the DOU.
• Income tax refunds that will result from declarations that will be submitted after the liquidation of ENFIA 2023 and until it is paid, will be offset centrally with this tax as well as with any other tax debt.
• Debts from income tax will be set off as a matter of priority with refund rights from other taxes, which exist or will arise until 31.7.2023, so that in case of payment of income tax through the set-off, a 3% discount will be granted.

**Interview with Tax Expert Maria Vasiliou about the New Changes to Personal Income Tax Returns**
**Editor:** Good afternoon, Maria, and thank you for joining us today to discuss the recent innovations in submitting personal income tax returns. Can you tell us what prompted these changes this year?
**Maria Vasiliou:** Good afternoon! The changes are part of the Greek government’s effort to simplify the tax return process and enhance compliance. By leveraging digital technologies like the myDATA platform, the aim is to make it easier for citizens to report their incomes accurately.
**Editor:** That sounds beneficial for taxpayers. What are some of the key innovations that citizens should be aware of?
**Maria Vasiliou:** Absolutely! One significant innovation is the pre-filling of individual E3 codes based on data from myDATA, allowing taxpayers to modify it as necessary. This should reduce the time spent on paperwork significantly. Also, the redesign of the Settlement Form and the E1 and E2 statements makes them more user-friendly.
**Editor:** And what about the new E1 table for electronic payments? How does that work?
**Maria Vasiliou:** This new table highlights the amounts of expenses that must be paid electronically in order to meet the requirements for tax deductions. This should aid taxpayers in understanding how to effectively plan their expenses and maximize deductions.
**Editor:** I’m glad to hear that. There’s also a mention of specific fields for taxpayers with dependent children. Can you elaborate on that?
**Maria Vasiliou:** Yes! Taxpayers with children will now need to fill in their child’s last name and, if available, their Identity Card Number. This change aims to ensure that the tax benefits for families with children are accurately applied, making it clearer for both the taxpayer and the authorities.
**Editor:** What about foreign residents? What has been done to make their tax return process simpler?
**Maria Vasiliou:** Great question! The process for submitting tax returns has been streamlined significantly for foreign residents. This includes reduced documentation and clearer guidelines, which can alleviate the confusion that often accompanies international tax matters.
**Editor:** could you explain the new codes related to income tax exemptions for cooperation among natural persons?
**Maria Vasiliou:** Certainly! New codes have been introduced to facilitate situations where natural persons cooperate in a way that might exempt them from income tax. This is part of broader efforts to encourage collaboration and entrepreneurship in the economy.
**Editor:** Thank you, Maria. It sounds like these changes will make a significant impact on the way citizens approach their tax returns this year.
**Maria Vasiliou:** You’re welcome! I hope that these updates will help taxpayers feel more confident and less overwhelmed during tax season.
**Editor:** Great insights, Maria. Thank you for your time!
