The U.S. Department of Justice has disclosed criminal charges related to an Iranian plot foiled by the Bureau. The plot aimed to assassinate Trump before the presidential elections which were held this week and which crowned him president over Democratic candidate Kamala Harris.
A criminal complaint, filed in federal court in Manhattan, alleges that an unnamed Iranian Revolutionary Guard officer instructed a contact last September to devise a plan to surveil and ultimately kill Trump within seven days.
According to the ABC network, three people have been charged in connection with the alleged plot to assassinate the president-elect which allegedly involved several Iranian dissidents. The Associated Press writes on its website that the man appointed by the Iranian official has been identified and charged. If he was unable to come up with the plan before voting, the instruction was given to put everything on hold until after the presidential election, because the official believed that Trump would lose and that it would be easier to assassinate him then. According to the complaint, the Iranian told the FBI that he had no intention of proposing a plan in the time frame indicated by the official.
