Prince Harry should know what Donald Trump thinks of him. “He betrayed the Queen. That’s unforgivable,” the old and soon-to-be new US President once said about Queen Elizabeth II‘s grandson. “If I had my way, he would be on his own.”
Everything suggests that the dislike is mutual. Together with his wife, Duchess Meghan, who criticized Trump in the past as “misogynistic,” Harry campaigned in the 2020 US election campaign for voters to “reject hate speech, misinformation and negativity on the internet.” They didn’t mention a name, but everyone agreed who they meant: Trump.
Now this same Trump will soon be returning to the White House. Does the return of one lead to the escape of the other?
Speculation in British media
British media are already speculating that the couple, who have lived in California for several years, could turn their backs on the US because of the election results. “Trump’s victory is what Meghan and Harry feared most – and could drive them out of America,” wrote royals expert Tessa Dunlop in the Independent newspaper.
Trump once said about the former actress Meghan (43) that he was “not a fan”. But he apparently harbors a personal grudge against Harry in particular. The reason: The 40-year-old has openly criticized the royal family several times. And Trump is obviously very impressed by that.
During the election campaign, the Republican was filmed leafing through a photo book of his state visit to Great Britain in 2019. Showed his admiration for the Queen, who died in 2022 and who, according to a biographer, did not think much of Trump. Trump praised Charles and his “wonderful” wife Queen Camilla. However, he would not protect Harry, Trump told the newspaper Express US months ago.
Did Harry lie on his visa application?
Specifically, it concerns the prince’s residence permit and the question of whether the fifth in line to the British throne lied in his visa application. In his autobiography “Spare” (in German: “Reserve”), Harry admitted to having consumed drugs such as cocaine, marijuana and psychedelic mushrooms.
According to the conservative US think tank The Heritage Foundation, Harry should not have entered the USA against this background. A court ordered Harry’s documents to remain private. Now the think tank has filed a new lawsuit.
As president, Trump could theoretically order the case to be reopened, US attorney Christi Hufford Jackson, an immigration law expert, told the British Telegraph. “The problem is that we are entering completely new territory here.” If push came to shove, Harry’s American dream would quickly become an American nightmare.
Königssohn feels comfortable in California
However, the royal son reportedly feels comfortable in California and his children are growing up in isolation, as desired. But in the event that they actually (have to) leave their adopted Californian home of Montecito, Harry and Meghan have allegedly taken precautions. The couple had bought a luxury property on the Portuguese Atlantic coast, British media reported a few weeks ago.
This means that Meghan and Harry and their children Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet would have a possible place of residence in Europe again. And they would also be closer to King Charles, who is being treated for cancer. Many Brits still have hope that Harry and the royals will reconcile.
Princess Eugenie could serve as a link. Harry’s cousin, the younger daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, splits her time between Portugal and London with husband Jack Brooksbank and sons August and Ernest.

**Interview with Royal Commentator Jessica Collins on the Potential Impact of Donald Trump’s Return to the White House on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle**
**Editor:** Welcome, Jessica! Let’s dive right into the recent news regarding Prince Harry and former President Donald Trump. What do you think are the implications of Trump returning to the White House for Harry and Meghan?
**Jessica Collins:** Thank you for having me! Trump’s return to the White House certainly raises some eyebrows regarding the future of Harry and Meghan in the U.S. Given Trump’s previous comments, particularly about Harry “betraying” the Queen and his outspoken criticisms of both Harry and Meghan, it’s quite clear that tensions exist. There’s speculation that the couple might even consider leaving the U.S. if Trump assumes office again.
**Editor:** That’s a significant thought. Do you believe the legal issues surrounding Harry’s visa could actually come into play if Trump were president again?
**Jessica Collins:** Yes, that’s a very real concern. Harry’s candid admissions about drug use in his memoir “Spare” could potentially complicate his immigration status. If the Heritage Foundation’s legal actions against him gain traction, it puts Harry in a vulnerable position. An administration led by Trump could choose to investigate this, meaning Harry might indeed face challenges staying in the country.
**Editor:** How do you think Harry and Meghan feel about their current situation in California amidst these developments?
**Jessica Collins:** It appears they’ve carved out a comfortable life in California, especially for their children. However, there’s also a strategic angle here; reports suggest they have properties in Portugal, which could serve as a contingency plan. This is quite telling and indicates they are prepared for any outcome – whether it’s staying in the U.S. or perhaps relocating back to Europe.
**Editor:** Considering the political backdrop, do you see any possibility of reconciliation between Harry and the royal family if Harry were to leave the U.S.?
**Jessica Collins:** That’s an interesting question. The dynamics in royal family relationships are complex, and a move to Portugal may bring Harry closer to King Charles, especially given his health issues. There’s still a glimmer of hope among the public for reconciliation within the family, so it’s possible that circumstances could shift sentiments.
**Editor:** Thank you, Jessica. It seems we are entering a rather tumultuous period for Harry and Meghan amidst these political transitions.
**Jessica Collins:** Absolutely. It’s a fluid situation, and it will be fascinating to see how it unfolds. Thank you for having me.
