Águilas del Zulia had no regard for the pitching of Caribes de Anzoátegui, a team they beat with a score of 13-4, and remains on a roll in the fifth week of the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League (LVBP).
The eaglets hit four homers (three of them in the first inning) and had a total of 21 hits against La Tribu’s pitchers, who paraded eight pitchers and only two came out unscathed.
With the award at the Alfonso “Chico” Carrasquel stadium in Puerto La Cruz, the ninth raptor now registers six conquests in a row, so it now has a record of 11-10, like Navegantes del Magallanes and Cardenales de Lara. The Aboriginal troop, on the other hand, has a record of 8-12 and is seventh in the table.
Power boy
From the first episode the visit gave indications of what the day would be like, as they hit three home runs to go up 3-0. The first blow was from Osleivis Basabe, the second from José Pirela and the third from Rougned Odor.
Those led by Morgan Ensberg responded immediately by making four lines to take control of the scoreboard.
Andruw Monasterio and Niuman Romero reached base with hits, while José Fernández did so due to a fielding error by rapacious third baseman Jorbit Vivas. Willians Astudillo hit a sacrifice fly with the bases loaded for Monasterio to score, then Leonel Valera loaded the bases again after receiving a walk and Romer Cuadrado hit a base sweeping double.
From then on everything remained the same until the sixth chapter, when the visit turned the slate upside down due to Loiger Padrón’s submissions. Consecutive doubles by Eduardo Torrealba and José Godoy left the scene set for Delino DeShields Jr, who also hit a tubey through center field to drive in his two teammates.
In the seventh inning the oriental pitching debacle ended, allowing five runs in that stretch. Andrés Sotillet started the inning, but couldn’t get an out and four of the runs went to his account. The other was to Rafael Marcano, who retired two and was replaced by Wiliander Moreno.
More races
Moreno himself had another one in the eighth (Héctor Sánchez’s second home run of the night) and Enderjer Sifontes had two more in the ninth to put the final numbers.
Sánchez was one of the most notable for the Marabina offensive, going 4-for-5 with three runs scored, four hits and two home runs. DeShields Jr. drove in three more and closed 4-for-6 with one scored.
The victory went to Henry Gómez (2-0), while the defeat was scored by Padrón (1-2).
Both teams will meet again this Friday at the Portocruz park, for the second duel of a four-game series.

**Interview with Sports Analyst Juan Rojas on Águilas del Zulia’s Dominating Performance**
**Editor:** Welcome to our sports segment, Juan. Thank you for joining us today to discuss the recent game between Águilas del Zulia and Caribes de Anzoátegui in the LVBP. What an explosive performance from Águilas del Zulia, winning 13-4! What were your thoughts on the game?
**Juan Rojas:** Thank you for having me! It was an incredible game, indeed. Águilas del Zulia showcased their offensive power like never before, especially with those early three home runs in the first inning. It set the tone for the entire match.
**Editor:** Speaking of those home runs, can you tell us more about what players stood out in that first inning?
**Juan Rojas:** Absolutely! Osleivis Basabe, José Pirela, and Rougned Odor all hit home runs in quick succession, which was pivotal. They really took advantage of the Caribes’ pitching struggles right from the start, putting them on the back foot.
**Editor:** It seems like the Caribes de Anzoátegui had a tough time managing their pitching. What contributed to their struggles in this game?
**Juan Rojas:** Well, they cycled through eight pitchers throughout the game, which indicates their starting pitcher didn’t set the right tone. Only two pitchers managed to keep the Águilas from scoring further, which is a testament to the aggressive approach Águilas took at the plate.
**Editor:** With this victory, Águilas de Zulia is on a six-game winning streak and has a record of 11-10. What does this momentum mean for them as the season progresses?
**Juan Rojas:** Momentum is huge in sports, especially in a league as competitive as the LVBP. With this winning streak, they’re not just gaining confidence, but also putting pressure on other teams like Navegantes del Magallanes and Cardenales de Lara, who share the same record. This could be a turning point for them in the season.
**Editor:** And what do you think lies ahead for the Caribes? They now sit at 8-12 and are seventh in the standings. Can they turn things around?
**Juan Rojas:** It’s going to be a challenge for them. They need to regroup and address their pitching woes. If they can find stability on the mound and better support their offense, they have a chance to climb back up the standings. But they have to act quickly.
**Editor:** Great insights, Juan! Thanks for sharing your thoughts. We look forward to seeing how both teams progress in the coming weeks.
**Juan Rojas:** Thank you! It’s always a pleasure to discuss the league and see how the teams evolve.
