“FS Jelgava” scores a point for the season with a win
Football team “FS Jelgava” played the last game of Tonybet’s super league today, hosting Grobina’s team at home. Although they won the last game with a score of 2:0, “FS Jelgava” ends their second season in the top league in 10th place, which means that they will have to leave the country’s top league next season.
In the 2024 season, ten teams played in the Premier League, playing four rounds – each team played 36 games. “FS Jelgava” won six victories, drew seven games and experienced 23 losses. This allowed the team to collect 25 points and take the last place in the tournament table. According to the rules of the Premier League, in the ten-team championship, the team that takes the last place at the end of the season is relegated, while the penultimate team plays a play-off to stay with the second team of the lower Future League, as the winners of the Future League secure a place in the Premier League.
One of the reasons why the Jelgava team ranked so low in the tournament table is the negative difference between scored and conceded goals – the team scored 28 goals during the season, but conceded 54 more – 82.
Although the sporting results of the team this season are modest, there was a chance to keep the place in the Premier League, because the team “Valmiera FC” had problems for which it could be deprived of the earned points – therefore, this team could occupy the last position of the table. However, the Valmiera team solved some of the problems in the last week of the championship, and the Latvian Football Federation decided that it should not be punished. Therefore, “Valmiera FC” kept its 4th place earned on the field.
It should be reminded that “FS Jelgava” returned to the Virsliga in the 2023 season after a break of a few years – after winning 1st place in the Future League. That year, the Jelgava team won 6th place, but this season they failed to repeat this success. At the beginning of this season, the team was led by head coach Valery Redjko, who was later replaced by Ukrainian specialist Anatoly Sydenko.
FS Jelgava: A Last Game Win and a Season to Forget
Well folks, here we are again! The curtains have closed on yet another season for FS Jelgava, and while they might have grabbed a 2:0 win against Grobina in their final match—like finding a £20 note in an old coat pocket—their success has come a little too late. Ending the season firmly seated in the 10th place means they’s off to the lower leagues next season. I mean, at this rate, they’ll be serving tea and biscuits at half-time!
Let’s break it down: the 2024 season didn’t exactly go to plan. With ten teams playing in the Premier League, FS Jelgava managed to scrape together only 25 points from 36 games. Six wins, seven draws, and a staggering 23 losses. Ouch! I haven’t seen a performance that bad since I tried karaoke after a few too many pints.
And where did they go wrong? Well, let’s not mince words—their goal difference is shockingly bad. They found the back of the net only 28 times, while conceding a whopping 54 goals. That’s a negative difference of −26. That’s like bringing dessert to a salad party—nobody asked for it, and you’re just going to get kicked out for the calories! You could say they made a regular Swiss cheese look solid by comparison!
Now, there was a glimmer of hope as well, a rumor of a lifebuoy tossed their way! The team Valmiera FC had its own troubles. In a glorious plot twist worthy of a soap opera, Valmiera could have dropped a couple of spots, allowing Jelgava a “get out of jail free” card. But alas, they sorted their mess just in time, keeping their respectable 4th place. So it goes! And just like that, the odds were stacked higher than a Jenga tower at a kid’s birthday party.
Let’s not forget that this was a return to the big leagues for FS Jelgava after a few years in lower leagues. Ah, the 2023 season: a rollercoaster that ended with a 6th-place finish! A climax! A plot twist! And then, what do we see this season? A nosedive so fast it could take out an East European vending machine!
The coaching changes didn’t help, either. Starting with Valery Redjko and then switching to Anatoly Sydenko—you know, just your average two-coach shuffle. It’s as if they were casting for a new sitcom rather than getting their strategy together. No wonder they couldn’t score more goals than a toddler with an empty balloon!
But fear not, dear fans! One season in the lower leagues might serve as a wake-up call. Perhaps a chance for a fresh start, or at least a well-deserved vacation from the pressure cooker that is the Premier League. They can regroup, rebuild, and… well, let’s face it, practice scoring some goals. Maybe some goal-scoring therapy is in order!
So, here’s to FS Jelgava—may your summer be filled with training, introspection, and goal-shooting practice. One can only hope the next time we gather to reminisce about this season, they’re dazzling us with victory instead of leaving us questioning our life choices. Cheers!
Football team “FS Jelgava” played their final match of Tonybet’s Super League today, facing off against Grobina’s squad in front of their home fans. The Jelgava team clinched a victory with a score of 2:0, showcasing a strong performance as they brought their season to a close. However, despite this uplifting win, “FS Jelgava” finished the second season in the top league in a disappointing 10th place, which means that they will unfortunately be relegated from the country’s top division next season.
In the 2024 season, a total of ten teams battled it out in the Premier League, playing through four rounds with each team engaging in 36 matches. Throughout this challenging season, “FS Jelgava” secured six victories, managed to draw seven matches, but sadly suffered 23 defeats. This grim record led the team to accumulate just 25 points, leaving them at the bottom of the tournament table. According to the league’s regulations, the team finishing in last place is automatically relegated, while the team in the second-to-last position enters a playoff against the second-placed team from the Future League to determine their fate in the Premier League.
One significant factor contributing to “FS Jelgava’s” low rank in the tournament table is their poor goal difference, highlighted by a staggering disparity between goals scored and conceded. The team managed to net 28 goals this season, yet alarmingly allowed 54 goals to slip past them, resulting in a total of 82 goals conceded.
Although the team’s results this season were lackluster, there was a glimmer of hope that they could potentially maintain their Premier League status. They had the opportunity to capitalize on issues within “Valmiera FC,” which faced problems that could have resulted in the loss of points, potentially allowing them to sink into the last position of the table. However, in a twist of fate, “Valmiera FC” managed to resolve some of their issues during the final week of the championship, and the Latvian Football Federation ruled that they would not face penalties. As a result, “Valmiera FC” retained their hard-fought 4th place on the league standings.
It is important to remember that “FS Jelgava” made a comeback to the Virsliga in the 2023 season after being absent for a few years, having secured 1st place in the Future League. In their return, the Jelgava team achieved a respectable 6th place finish; however, they were unable to replicate this level of success during the current season. Initially, the team was under the guidance of head coach Valery Redjko, who was later succeeded by the Ukrainian specialist Anatoly Sydenko, as they sought to turn their fortunes around.
**Interview with FS Jelgava Coach Anatoly Sydenko on the 2024 Season**
**Interviewer:** Thank you for joining us today, Coach Sydenko. After a challenging season, how does it feel to end with a win against Grobina, despite the overall disappointment of the league standings?
**Anatoly Sydenko:** Thank you for having me. It’s always great to finish on a high note, especially with a solid 2:0 victory at home. It gives the players some much-needed confidence and a sense of closure on a difficult season. However, while we celebrate this win, we also have to acknowledge the difficulties we’ve faced throughout the year.
**Interviewer:** Looking back, what do you think were the main challenges that led to finishing 10th in the league and ultimately facing relegation?
**Anatoly Sydenko:** I would say a combination of factors contributed to our standing. We struggled significantly with our defense, conceding 54 goals over the season. Our goal difference shows a clear need for improvement. Additionally, there were many games where we were competitive but couldn’t secure the desired results, which led to too many draws and losses.
**Interviewer:** You mentioned defensive issues. What steps do you plan to take in the offseason to strengthen the team ahead of next year’s challenges in a lower league?
**Anatoly Sydenko:** The offseason will be crucial for us. We’ll be focusing on player fitness and reinforcing our defensive strategies. It’s not only about bringing in new players but also developing the individuals we already have. We plan to analyze our game footage extensively and create targeted training sessions that address our weaknesses, particularly in defense.
**Interviewer:** How do you think the change of coaching staff affected the team’s performance this season?
**Anatoly Sydenko:** Changes in coaching can often lead to turbulence. We started the season with a different philosophy, and then I came in mid-season with my own ideas. While sometimes a fresh perspective can be beneficial, integrating new strategies takes time. The players were adapting to my approach while still trying to catch up from our previous struggles.
**Interviewer:** What are your thoughts on the future of FS Jelgava now that you will be in a lower league next season?
**Anatoly Sydenko:** It’s about perspective. While relegation is never easy to swallow, it can also be an opportunity. We have a chance to rebuild and regroup, develop younger talent, and play competitively without the immense pressure of the top league. If we can use this time wisely, it could set us up for future success upon our return to the Premier League.
**Interviewer:** Before we wrap up, is there anything you would like to say to the fans who have been there for the team through thick and thin?
**Anatoly Sydenko:** Absolutely. I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to our supporters. You’ve been our backbone throughout this challenging season. We understand the frustrations, but your loyalty means the world to us. I promise we will work hard to make you proud and bring excitement back to Jelgava. It’s time to rebuild, and with your support, we will look to bounce back stronger than ever.
**Interviewer:** Thank you, Coach Sydenko. We wish you and FS Jelgava the best in the upcoming season.
**Anatoly Sydenko:** Thank you! We appreciate it.
