At the same time, as he pointed out, with the upgrade of ENGAGE, the leadership and officers of the Fire Brigade, the firefighters and forest commanders, the volunteers and the Civil Protection forces operating at the level will be able to be updated in real time on all meteorological conditions, the geomorphology, where the vehicles are and what aerial vehicles are operating and where. At the same time, they will have access to a wealth of data, which will strengthen their operational capabilities, such as the history of the evolution of fires in the affected areas.
The upgrade of ENGAGE concerns a total of 40 additions – improvements to the existing information system. These include, among others, the supply of a virtual reality training system, surveillance cameras, the supply of 500 computers and 1000 monitors, new portable tracking devices (trackers) and tablets for the fire engines, etc.
“With the upgrade of Engage we will be able to deal even more and better with the elements of nature, natural disasters and of course, above all, unfortunately, forest fires, which with the climate crisis you see are getting more and more intense. We will not stop through AEGIS to strengthen the Fire Brigade and Civil Protection, but also the Hellenic Police, the EKAV, the Armed Forces and the forest offices, with vehicles, helicopters, aircraft, with digital tools and artificial intelligence, with personal equipment for the firefighters, but also for our volunteers, so that we can present more and more high-level results in the field” said Mr. Kikilias.
