Lhe Minister of Public Works, Flavien Nzengui Nzoundou and his colleague in charge of National Education, Camélia Ntoutoume Leclercq, proceeded on Wednesday to the official commissioning of a new footbridge at the Lycée National Léon Mba. This work, long awaited by the students, teachers and administrative staff of this high school, one of the largest secondary establishments in the capital and the country, aims to guarantee the safety of students, by facilitating their access and exits, after numerous accidents on this site. road.
The structure, built by the Swiss company Eco Wood, is made of local wood and measures twice 24 meters long, with stairs measuring 54 meters. The footbridge rises to a height of 13.5 meters, designed to avoid any snagging of objects or machines, thus guaranteeing the safety of users, explained Beat Kaisser, deputy general director of Eco Wood.
The choice of materials (wood) is not accidental, indicates the Minister of Public Works who reveals that this infrastructure is made based on a “essence that resists water and bad weather. Even in the event of damage, we will not have difficulty rehabilitating this structure”underlined Flavien Nzengui Nzoundou who symbolically handed over the keys to the infrastructure to his Colleague, Minister of National Education and Vocational Training, responsible for civic training.
To the Minister of Public Works, “I really want to express our thanks for the commissioning of this gateway. It was a very accident-prone area, and we are now reassured that our children will be able to get to and from school safely.”rejoiced Camélia Ntoutoume Leclercq, as did the students, the main beneficiaries of the work.
This suspended footbridge will at the same time avoid traffic jams and improve traffic flow on this busy seafront ramp. This footbridge will also be beneficial for all other students in surrounding schools, and even for all other users in the area.
The inauguration of the footbridge at the Lycée National de Léon Mba, after those of the Lycée d’Etat Paul Indjendjet Gondjout (a stone’s throw from Léon Mba international airport) and the Lycée Djoué Dabany (on national road 1, at PK 9) marks a significant step forward in road safety for students.
This project illustrates the authorities’ commitment to improving the conditions of access and exit from educational establishments, particularly those located near the main arteries of Libreville; while reducing the risk of accidents.
The collaboration between the ministerial departments concerned and private companies in the completion of these works demonstrates an active public-private partnership, as well as the common desire to protect young people and promote their education in a safer environment.
