Washington, DC — In an exciting development for the welfare of animals across the city, DC Health has proudly unveiled a new collaboration with the Brandywine Valley SPCA (BVSPCA). Well-regarded in neighboring states for their exceptional animal care services, BVSPCA is passionately dedicated to eradicating animal suffering while fostering community involvement in promoting animal welfare. This partnership is set to significantly enhance the compassionate treatment and services offered to animals within the District.
“We are proud to bring our expertise in animal care, progressive sheltering policies, and lifesaving programs to the nation’s capital,” stated Adam Lamb, CEO of Brandywine Valley SPCA, expressing enthusiasm about this initiative. “I want to personally thank Mayor Bowser, Dr. Bennett, and the entire DC Health team for championing this swift transition, which will allow us to expand and modernize the overall standards of care and services available for animals and pet families in the District. We encourage community engagement and support for our mission through volunteering, fostering, adopting, and donating. Together, we can make a difference.”
Key Highlights:
- Partnership with BVSPCA: DC Health has finalized a contract with Brandywine Valley SPCA, whose mission is to actively advocate on behalf of animals by reintegrating the essence of “human” back into humane treatment.
- Immediate Actions: In response to current needs, a temporary shelter will be rapidly established to manage overflow from the New York Avenue facility, ensuring animals are appropriately cared for as this transition unfolds.
- Future: DC Health is proactively searching for ideal locations for a new, permanent animal shelter, aimed at addressing the escalating demands of the community and its animal population.
“Brandywine Valley SPCA has been an exceptional ally in crafting a forward-thinking vision for animal services in DC,” remarked Dr. Ayanna Bennett, Director of DC Health. “I am thrilled to collaborate with them in revitalizing our animal services program and actualizing Mayor Bowser’s vision of a modernized and expanded DC Animal Shelter. Our mission is to guarantee safe, high-quality care for all animals while establishing sustainable solutions that will benefit the community for years into the future.”

**Host:** Welcome, Adam! We’re thrilled to have you here to discuss the recent collaboration between Brandywine Valley SPCA and DC Health. Can you tell us more about what this partnership means for animals in Washington, DC?
**Adam Lamb:** Thank you for having me! This partnership is an incredible opportunity for us to extend our mission of eradicating animal suffering and enhancing community involvement in animal welfare right into the heart of the nation’s capital. By working closely with DC Health, we can bring our expertise in progressive sheltering policies and lifesaving programs to better serve the animals and families in this area.
**Host:** That sounds fantastic! What specific changes or programs can the community expect to see as a result of this collaboration?
**Adam Lamb:** One of our primary goals is to modernize the standards of care and services for animals in DC. This includes enhancing our sheltering practices, increasing adoption services, and expanding outreach programs for community engagement. We want to encourage volunteering, fostering, and donations, allowing residents to actively participate in our mission. Together, we can create a more compassionate environment for all animals.
**Host:** It’s great to hear about the community involvement aspect! How can residents get more involved and support BVSPCA in this initiative?
**Adam Lamb:** There are several ways people can help! We’re always looking for volunteers to assist in various capacities, whether it’s at our shelter or during community events. Fostering animals in need is another crucial way to make a difference, as it helps prepare them for adoption. Of course, adopting is a fantastic option for those looking to welcome a new furry family member. Lastly, donations are always appreciated and directly contribute to the care we provide to the animals.
**Host:** Those are excellent ways for the community to engage! What message do you hope to convey to the residents of Washington, DC through this partnership?
**Adam Lamb:** I want the community to know that every small action counts. Each time someone volunteers, fosters, adopts, or donates, they are playing a vital role in improving the lives of animals in need. We believe that together, we can create a strong support system for animals and pet families in DC, and we’re excited to have them join us on this mission.
**Host:** Thank you, Adam, for sharing your insights and the exciting developments happening with BVSPCA and DC Health. We look forward to seeing the positive impact of this partnership on the community and its animals.
