Another serious accident on the Vienna subway – woman in critical condition

The woman was given first aid by emergency services and taken to hospital. According to professional rescue spokesman Daniel Melcher, she was in critical condition. The accident was the subject of investigations.

The accident occurred shortly before 6 p.m. According to Wiener Linien, the 60-year-old was waiting for a train at the edge of the platform. She was hit by the incoming train and ended up lying on the platform. The driver of the train immediately notified the control center, which started the rescue chain. The Wiener Linien and the police traffic accident squad investigated the accident. The subway driver was looked after by the crisis intervention team.

Due to this incident, the U4 was unable to travel between Längenfeldgasse and Kettenbrückengasse until 6:30 p.m. After that, the line in this area was only run on one track in both directions and the Margaretengurtel station was not observed. Shortly before 7 p.m., the U4 resumed non-stop operation.

Two subway surfers died

It was only on October 29th that two “subway surfers” had a serious accident at the Schönbrunn U4 station in Vienna. On Thursday it was announced that an 18-year-old, like his 17-year-old companion, succumbed to his serious injuries. A total of four young men climbed onto the roof of a U4 train coming from Hütteldorf shortly after 4 p.m. in order to “surf” it. The two deceased struck a pedestrian bridge as they entered Schönbrunn station and were seriously injured. A 16-year-old escaped with minor injuries, while a 13-year-old boy remained uninjured.

**Interview with Daniel Melcher, Professional Rescue Spokesman**

**Editor:** Thank you for joining us, Daniel. ⁣There have been two ⁣tragic incidents involving “train surfing” this past week. Can you explain ‌the severity of these accidents‌ and ‌their implications?

**Daniel Melcher:** Thank you for having ‌me. Both incidents highlight the extremely dangerous and ‍reckless⁣ nature of train surfing. In the recent case where a teenager died after hitting his head against a railway bridge, and the earlier one involving two young men at the Schönbrunn station in Vienna, we’ve seen the tragic consequences that can arise from⁤ such behavior. It’s a ⁣reminder that these stunts are not only illegal but also life-threatening.

**Editor:** What sort of injuries are ⁣usually associated with train surfing, and why is the activity so fraught with danger?

**Daniel Melcher:** Train surfing can lead to catastrophic injuries, including traumatic brain injuries, fractures, and,⁣ in some cases, fatalities. Trains operate at very high speeds and can be ⁣unpredictable.⁢ The slightest mistake or miscalculation can have fatal consequences, as we’ve unfortunately seen.

**Editor:** How are emergency services responding to these types of incidents, and what support do they provide?

**Daniel Melcher:** Our emergency services respond immediately to such‌ accidents. In both cases, first aid was administered on-site, and the ⁤victims were promptly transported to hospitals. We also provide psychological ⁤support‍ to emergency responders as they often witness distressing scenes. It’s crucial for their‌ mental well-being.

**Editor:** What steps are being taken ‌to prevent ⁢these accidents in the ⁤future?

**Daniel Melcher:** Education and awareness⁣ campaigns are ‌essential. ⁢We’re working⁣ with public⁤ transportation authorities to emphasize the dangers ⁢of train surfing through outreach programs in schools and social media. In‌ addition, surveillance and law enforcement at train ⁤stations may ‌increase to deter⁢ such behaviors.

**Editor:** Thank you for your insights, Daniel. It’s ⁤clear that the community must work together to prevent these tragic occurrences and promote safety awareness.

**Daniel Melcher:** Yes, thank you. It’s important for everyone to understand the risks and ⁢make safer choices.
