MEDIA Indonesia won 2 awards at the World Association of News Publishers (WAN-IFRA) Asian Media Awards 2024. Media Indonesia Photographer and Multimedia Producer, Ramdani received the award at the Mount Faber Peak Ballroom, Singapore, Wednesday (6/11).
Media Indonesia won silver winner in the “Best Newspaper Front Page Design” category with its work entitled “Together Ensure Change”. Apart from that, Media Indonesia was the winner in “Best in Feature Photography” for the sub-category of small/medium media companies (small/medium) with the title “Arriving Back in the Capital City”. “What is certain is that we are grateful because in general Media Indonesia, in the midst of a business that is not going well, still achieves achievements at the Asian level. Indeed, this is not the first time, but to be able to maintain its achievements every year in this event is a challenge in itself and this is the result of cooperation from all teams,” said Ramdani, when contacted, Wednesday (6/11).
Ramdani explained the two works that were awarded. The first work entitled “Together Ensure Change” is a photo of the final campaign atmosphere of the presidential and vice presidential candidate pair Anies Baswedan and Muhaimin Iskandar at the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS), Saturday (11/2/2024).
The photo shows Anies hugging Muhaimin against the backdrop of the splendor of JIS. Ramdani admitted that the photo was unique because at that time not many people captured the moment from the perspective below the stage.

“For me, that was the peak moment when Anies and Muhaimin hugged. At that time I immediately thought this could be a photo of the Presidential Election victory or this could be the last hug or togetherness between Anies and Muhaimin,” he said.
Meanwhile, the second photo entitled “Arriving Back in the Capital City” is a photo of people arriving in Jakarta after returning from their hometowns to celebrate Eid. Ramdani visited Senen Station, Kampung Rambutan Terminal and Soekarno-Hatta Airport and interviewed several people to ask about the costs they spent to return to their hometown with their families.
“I want to photograph all groups. From those who can only afford to take a bus to those who take a plane. There are indeed those who go home and return on motorbikes and cars, but that has happened before,” he said.
It is known that the World Association of News Publishers (WAN-IFRA) is a global organization for the world press. WAN-IFRA has a network of 3000 news publishing companies and 60 publishing associations representing 18 thousand publications in 120 countries.

**Interview with Ramdani, Photographer and Multimedia Producer at Media Indonesia**
**Interviewer:** Congratulations on winning two awards at the WAN-IFRA Asian Media Awards 2024! How does it feel to be recognized on such a prestigious platform?
**Ramdani:** Thank you! It feels truly rewarding and humbling. Winning these awards, especially in a time when the media landscape is challenging, reflects the hard work and dedication of everyone at Media Indonesia. It’s a testament to our team’s collaboration and creative spirit.
**Interviewer:** You mentioned that the awards were a result of teamwork. Can you elaborate on how your team collaborated to achieve these results?
**Ramdani:** Absolutely! Every project we undertake involves tight coordination between photographers, editorial staff, and designers. For the award-winning piece “Together Ensure Change,” my colleagues and I worked closely to create a powerful narrative. The photo showcases an emotional moment during the campaign, and it was a joint effort to ensure that the vision was realized perfectly.
**Interviewer:** Tell us more about the awarded works. What inspired the photograph “Together Ensure Change”?
**Ramdani:** This photo was taken during the final campaign rally of Anies Baswedan and Muhaimin Iskandar at the Jakarta International Stadium. It captures a moment of unity as Anies embraces Muhaimin, symbolizing their partnership. I chose a unique angle from below the stage, which allowed me to frame the emotion against the stunning backdrop of the stadium. I believe capturing these moments authentically invites the audience into the experience.
**Interviewer:** Winning in the “Best in Feature Photography” category is a significant achievement. How do you ensure your photographs resonate with the audience?
**Ramdani:** I always strive to tell a story through my images. It’s important that viewers feel a connection to what they’re seeing. Whether it’s a political rally or a feature on daily life, I aim for depth and emotion. The awarded feature photograph, “Arriving Back in the Capital City,” had a similar intention — to capture the nuanced experiences of people returning home.
**Interviewer:** What’s next for you and Media Indonesia after this success?
**Ramdani:** We’re motivated to keep pushing our boundaries and exploring new storytelling techniques. Winning these awards inspires us to continue creating impactful content that resonates with our audience. We want to maintain this momentum and keep evolving, despite the challenges we face in the industry.
**Interviewer:** Thank you, Ramdani! We look forward to seeing more of your remarkable work in the future.
**Ramdani:** Thank you! I appreciate the support, and I’m excited for what’s to come.
