Former MEGADETH guitarist Marty Friedman has released a striking new single titled “Song For An Eternal Child”, showcasing the artistic evolution evident in his latest solo album, “Drama”. This evocative track comes with the second music video from the album, which is now available for viewing below.
Reflecting on the meaning behind “Song For An Eternal Child”, Marty shared: “The second music video from my album ‘Drama’ delves into a feeling that resonates deeply with countless individuals — the inescapable realization that we’ve never really matured. The same innocent, wide-eyed child I was years ago, embarking on the journey of discovering the wonders of life, is precisely who I remain today, and I can sense that this essence will persist in me. Directed by the talented Takumi Osera, the minimalistic yet powerful imagery in this video may even transform the way you perceive yourself. I’m currently on tour, bringing this music to life! Tickets, VIP packages, and additional information can be found at www.martyfriedman.com.”
In a recent sit-down with Rodrigo Altaf from Sonic Perspectives, Friedman elaborated on his ambitious touring agenda to support “Drama”. He enthusiastically stated: “We are currently navigating the planning phases for our tour schedules. We’ve engaged in a couple of festivals in Asia… However, our world tour will likely launch later this year or early next year. We expect to be on tour extensively after that, aiming to reach Canada and perform everywhere. We’ve already secured some festival appearances for the upcoming year. Right now, we’re strategizing the details of the main tour and I can assure you this will be a significant rollout. It’s going to be a big one.”
In July, Friedman officially announced the dates for his U.S. tour set for 2025, in support of “Drama”, which is now available through Frontiers Music Srl. This highly anticipated tour is set to begin on January 25 in Las Vegas, with the finale planned for February 22 in Los Angeles.
The dynamic acoustic duo of Nikki Stringfield and Patrick Kennison will be joining him as special guests on these dates, adding an extra layer of excitement to the performances.
Tickets for the tour, along with exclusive meet-and-greet VIP packages, stage-played guitars, and additional merchandise can be obtained through MartyFriedman.com.
The eagerly awaited autobiography of Friedman, titled “Dreaming Japanese”, is scheduled to hit the shelves on December 3, courtesy of Permuted Press.
During a candid dialogue with George Dionne from KNAC.COM, Friedman addressed whether his book presents an unfiltered view of his life experiences. He disclosed: “Absolutely. The entire premise of the book revolves around sharing aspects of my life that I’ve never disclosed in the media, including private matters and the intricacies of relationships I’ve navigated through my various bands and projects. It offers a nearly clandestine insight into the Japanese music landscape and entertainment industry from the perspective of a foreigner who has integrated into and succeeded within that culture.”
When speaking to “THAT Rocks!”, the YouTube series led by Eddie Trunk, Jim Florentine, and Don Jamieson, he elaborated on why this was the opportune moment to release his autobiography. He expressed: “I’ve persistently kept my personal life shielded from the media’s gaze. Even within Japanese media, where my visibility is greater than in the U.S., I’ve maintained a boundary regarding my private life. While every individual harbors a profound personal narrative, I’ve spent years developing this autobiography. Upon finding an exceptional publisher enthusiastic about bringing my story to fruition, the project unspooled into something far more extensive than I could have anticipated.”
He continued, “This book engrosses in the minutiae of my life in the heavy metal scene, detailing my journey from the pinnacle of success in a platinum band to seeking a fresh start in Japan, where I aspired to perform J-Pop. It’s an intimate examination of my daily experiences in Japan, coupled with a thorough exploration of the Japanese television industry and music scene, written from my truly unique perspective.”
During discussions about the audiobook format, Marty casually remarked: “I could. But honestly, the prospect of recording it myself feels daunting. The idea of narrating a book that could span upwards of 150,000 words is overwhelming. I already find voiceover work for 30-minute TV shows in Japan taxing, so the thought of an entire audiobook is somewhat unnerving.”
When Marty first revealed his plans for the autobiography on May 13, he expressed heartfelt anticipation, stating: “After an exhaustive and seemingly endless process, I’m beyond excited to let you know that I’ve just turned in the final manuscript for my autobiography, ‘Dreaming Japanese’. I’ve consistently shielded my personal life from media scrutiny, so with nervous excitement, I am eager to unveil my story, encompassing my upbringing, home life, and career.”
He emphasized, “This narrative offers the most profound insights into my time with MEGADETH and the personal relationships that defined that era, recounted with remarkable clarity. I’m also unveiling the complete story of my dramatic shift from leading a high-profile life in a multi-platinum band to starting anew in Japan, along with the motivations behind this leap. Mybook promises a total immersion in my Japanese life as I share the intricacies of the local music and entertainment industries from my unique viewpoint.”
Friedman remains enthusiastic about sharing his personal revelations, stating: “Throughout its extensive narratives, this book is bound to contain insights into my life and experiences that few if any, are aware of. My aim is to paint a picture of who I am beyond what’s typically portrayed in interviews, revealing the profound stories of my journey to those who may find them intriguing.”

Had this to say: “I’m thrilled to announce that the audiobook will be available as well. It allows me to narrate my story in my own voice, sharing not just the written word but the passion and emotion behind it. It’s a very personal touch that I believe my fans will appreciate.”

*Q: Congratulations on the release of your new single, “Song For An Eternal Child.” What inspired this particular track?*
**Marty Friedman:** Thank you! The inspiration for “Song For An Eternal Child” stems from a deep reflection on the essence of who we are. There’s a lot that hasn’t been shared before, and I wanted to tell it in my voice.
*Q: How do you feel this book complements your musical career?*
