A 36-year-old man was prosecuted for his alleged participation in the theft of 12 million pesos from the bank account of a 74-year-old woman. The investigation, led by a prosecutor from the Computer Crimes Unit of the Tolima Section, managed to identify José Norvey Rodríguez as the person responsible for withdrawing the money irregularly.
The events occurred on May 3, 2023, when Rodríguez went to a bank in Ibagué and proceeded to withdraw the sum of money, which had been fraudulently transferred from the victim’s account. According to the Prosecutor’s Office, the transfer was carried out by third parties irregularly, and Rodríguez fulfilled the function of withdrawing the funds.
The person involved was arrested in Bogotá by agents of the Technical Investigation Corps (CTI) and the Sijin of the National Police, after a court with a guarantee control function in Ibagué issued a court order against him. During the hearing, the Prosecutor’s Office charged the charges of aggravated theft by computer means, violation of personal data, and abusive access to a computer system.
Although the evidence of the case was presented to him, Rodríguez did not accept the charges and remains linked to the judicial process. The Prosecutor’s Office indicated that the alleged suspect acted with the purpose of appropriating the woman’s funds, whose account was violated without her consent.
This case highlights the risks of cybercrime and the growing concern over the misuse of banking systems and the protection of personal data, especially as it relates to vulnerable people like the victim of this theft.
