1. TSJ rejected an appeal requesting to publish the presidential election results

On Tuesday, November 5, the TSJ rejected an appeal requesting to order the National Electoral Council (CNE) to publish the results of the presidential elections of July 28, whose official result, questioned inside and outside the country, gave the victory for Nicolás Maduro.

On its website, the Constitutional Chamber of the TSJ declared as inadmissible the amparo action filed by the Popular Democratic Front (FDP), a dissident Chavismo coalition that requested said publication.

Likewise, the court imposed a fine on the lawyer María Alejandra Díaz, who assisted the request for protection. The law establishes that fines may be imposed on “those who disrespect, offend or disturb with their actions the Judiciary, the Supreme Court of Justice, its bodies or officials, or those who abuse judicial resources or actions.”

Luis Moreno Ocampo, former prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), considered on Tuesday, November 5, that although there is a possible prosecution in Venezuela for crimes against humanity, the country needs a “transition towards democracy.”

“A transition is needed in which the regime accepts that it lost the elections and there is a path to a democratic system. It is not possible to believe that just a little bit of makeup is enough,” she said in an interview with the news agency EFE.

In relation to the presidential elections of July 28, Moreno Ocampo does not doubt that there was “electoral fraud” and condemned the arrests of opposition leaders, electoral and criminal prosecutors.
