The President of the Government español, Pedro Sánchez, announced this Tuesday a set of measures and aid that were approved in the Council of Ministers, aimed at those affected by DANA (isolated depression at high levels). This support package is valued at 10.6 billion euros.
In a press conference after the Council of Ministers, President Pedro Sánchez reported that “1,300 new rescues” have been carried out in the areas affected by DANA, which has caused more than 200 deaths.
«There are still missing persons to be located, homes and businesses destroyed, buried under mud, and people suffering from severe deprivation. That is why we have to continue working without distractions, with more resources, with more coordination and with more effort,” he said.
In addition, Sánchez approved the declaration of a “catastrophic zone” in the communities of the Valencian Community, Castilla-La Mancha, Andalusia, Catalonia and Aragon, in order to facilitate the distribution of aid for the reconstruction of the affected areas.
Response plan for those affected by DANA
“This plan is necessary to adapt the territory to the climate emergency that is affecting our beloved Mediterranean Sea,” he said.
Sánchez reported that “direct aid of up to 60,000 euros per home” and “up to 10,300 euros for the repair and replacement of furniture and appliances” have been approved. In addition, “a line of guarantees for a total of 5,000 million euros” will be established.
«The Government is going to pay 100% of the emergency expenses of the municipalities affected by DANA. “We are going to finance all the actions that have to do with the removal of mud, debris, unusable belongings, the supply of drinking water, the cleaning of the streets, the accommodation and maintenance of those affected,” he added.
He also refused to replace the Generalitat Valenciana because, in his opinion, the measure would make the response less effective. «In addition to unity there is efficiency. In this crisis there are no minutes to lose and, therefore, entering into a situation of substitution of the administration, in this case territorial like that of the Generalitat Valenciana, would be to reduce the effectiveness of the action and response of the public powers,” he stated. .
