A ‘super fast battery’ that can run 400 km on a 10-minute charge

Battery The world’s largest manufacturer has launched the first ‘super fast charging’ battery that will provide a range of 400 km (249 miles) in just 10 minutes of charging.

China K’s Contemporary Empirex Technology Ltd (CATL) has said that its new lithium-ion battery Electric cars A new era will begin and range anxiety for owners will be over.

The battery can provide a range of 700 kilometers on a full charge, which is about 60 percent more than electric vehicles in 2023.

CATL says the increase in battery capacity and charge time is achieved through a ‘completely new superconducting electrolyte formula’, which results in improved conductivity.

“The future of EV battery technology should be at the forefront of global technology with economic benefits,” said CATL Chief Scientist Dr. Wu Kai.

‘As consumers continue to grow, we must make cutting-edge technology accessible to all and enable everyone to reap the benefits of innovation.’

CATL, which produced more lithium-ion batteries than any of its competitors in 2022, plans to begin mass production of its futuristic battery later this year.

The company did not say which carmaker will take its reins first. However, its customers include BMW, Daimler AG, Honda, Tesla, Toyota, Volkswagen and Volvo.

Electric car sales have seen record growth in recent years. Last year, the sales of such cars were more than one crore. However, they still account for a fifth of all car sales.

According to the International Energy Agency, range concerns are a major barrier for consumers when considering an electric vehicle purchase, which has forced manufacturers such as CATL to invest heavily in overcoming this barrier.

Other issues include access to battery material and battery degradation, although CATL claims that these other points are not a problem with its current battery.

Most major automakers have set a goal of phasing out internal combustion engine cars by 2040, and IEA estimates show that sales of electric cars will surpass those of gasoline-powered cars in the next 15 years. Sales will increase, while battery success could reduce that timescale even further.
