**Interview with Dr. Ana María Montoya, Seismologist at the Colombian Geological Service**
**Interviewer:** Thank you for joining us today, Dr. Montoya. Can you tell us about the recent earthquake that shook Colombia on holiday Monday?
**Dr. Montoya:** Thank you for having me. The earthquake, which registered a magnitude of 6.0, was centered northwest of Medellín and was felt across several major cities, including Medellín, Bogotá, and Cali. It occurred at around 9:30 PM and caused significant alarm among residents.
**Interviewer:** What was the cause of this earthquake, and are there any reports of damage?
**Dr. Montoya:** The earthquake was caused by tectonic movements along the boundaries of the Nazca and South American plates, which is a common occurrence in Colombia due to its geographical location. As for damage reports, while initial assessments indicate some infrastructure was affected, we are still waiting for detailed reports from the affected areas to determine the extent of the damage.
**Interviewer:** How can residents prepare for future earthquakes, especially given the frequency of such events in Colombia?
**Dr. Montoya:** It’s essential for residents to be prepared. This includes having an emergency plan, securing heavy furniture, and being aware of safe spots to take cover during tremors. Communities should also participate in earthquake drills and keep an emergency kit ready.
**Interviewer:** Thank you, Dr. Montoya, for your insights. We hope everyone remains safe and vigilant in the wake of this event.
**Dr. Montoya:** Thank you, and let’s prioritize safety and awareness in our communities.
