The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) said that the Mpox vaccine used in Indonesia is confirmed to be safe and has received distribution permits from WHO and BPOM.
Ministry of Health spokesperson Mohammad Syahril said the Mpox vaccine used in Indonesia is not an experimental vaccine, but has been tested and can be given in health emergency situations.
“The Mpox vaccine has received Emergency Use Listing (EUL) from WHO and Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) from BPOM, which means this vaccine can be used in emergency conditions,” said Syahril, as reported Kompas.com12 September 2024.
Currently, the Mpox vaccine used in Indonesia is the type Modified Vaccinia Ankara-Bavarian Nordic (MVA-BN) or also known as Imvamune, which is a vaccine derived from smallpox (smallpox) the third generation in nature non-replicating.
The implementation of Mpox vaccination with MVA-BN has been carried out since 2023, after confirmed cases of Mpox were discovered in Indonesia.
Meanwhile, WHO has approved three vaccines to prevent Mpox. These three vaccines were originally intended to prevent smallpox, but were later developed to prevent Mpox.
The first vaccine, MVA-BN or Imvamune, was approved in 2013 for the prevention of smallpox in Canada and the European Union, targeting people aged 18 years and over.
In 2019, MVA-BN was approved for the prevention of smallpox and Mpox in adults in the United States.
In the same year, Canada expanded MVA-BN for Mpox prevention. Then, on July 22 2022, the European Union approved MVA-BN for the prevention of Mpox in adults.
So far, MVA-BN is not licensed for people under 18 years of age.

Hoax! Let’s Talk About the Mpox Vaccine
Ah, the internet! A place where facts go on holiday and everyone’s an expert, including that bloke in your Facebook feed who thought “Dr. Google” was a valid qualification. So, let’s unpack this hogwash about the Mpox vaccine in Indonesia being experimental.
The Ridiculous Hoax
KOMPAS.com recently clarified that rumors claiming the Mpox vaccine is experimental are as truthful as a politician during election season. The original narrative popped up on, where else, a Facebook post! You know, the same site where grandma sends you cat videos and conspiracy theories in equal measure.
Now, let’s examine what this dubious Facebook account had to say:
“Get ready for the next vaccine nonsense, the regime is preparing an experimental vaccine for the LGBT disease Monkey Pox.”
“One word: REJECT”
Isn’t it great how they threw in “LGBT disease” as if Mpox just sidled up to the rainbow parade? This sounds like something out of a pitch for a bad horror film – “The Zombie Vaccine: Coming to a Facebook near you!”
The Real Deal
The fact checkers over at Kompas declared this narrative a fancy bit of nonsense. According to the Ministry of Health, the Mpox vaccine currently in use is not only safe but has also received proper permissions from WHO and BPOM. And let’s be honest, you don’t get to that level without breaking a few bureaucratic hearts along the way!
Spokesperson Mohammad Syahril spilled the beans: “The Mpox vaccine is not experimental! It’s been tested and is perfectly suitable for health emergencies.” So, there’s that – a rare win for the Ministry of Health!
Not Your Average Shot
Now, let’s get technical for the science nerds in the back. The vaccine being administered in Indonesia is called Modified Vaccinia Ankara-Bavarian Nordic (MVA-BN) or Imvamune—yes, it sounds like a luxury car model that might come with heated seats for your health journey.
This vaccine has been in our lives since 2023, following confirmed cases of Mpox in the country, and is a descendant of the smallpox vaccine. Fun fact: this is like meeting your great-grandfather but with fewer stories about how he walked fifteen miles in the snow… uphill, both ways!
Surprisingly, it received lots of love from health authorities worldwide with approvals rolling in like fans at a music festival. Canada and the European Union hopped on board back in 2013, followed by approvals in the US and elsewhere by 2022. It’s like the vaccine became some kind of international rockstar!
However, a slight spoiler alert: MVA-BN is not yet recommended for those under 18 years old. So, sorry kids! You’ll have to wait a bit longer for your opportunity to be vaccinated against this outrageous rumor.
Conclusion: Fact vs. Fiction
In a nutshell, if you encounter that wacky narrative about the Mpox vaccine being experimental, do yourself a favor: hit the block button and follow the science instead, like the good citizen you are. Remember folks, the only thing we need to reject here is disinformation, and maybe that overcooked spaghetti from last week’s dinner!
Until next time, keep questioning everything, and let the health professionals do their job without the interference of internet “experts.” Cheers!
This approach combines a sharp, observational tone with a cheeky twist, making the information more engaging while providing a thorough examination of the topic at hand. It’ll keep readers entertained while delivering the facts.
Avarian Nordic (MVA-BN), also known as Imvamune. This vaccine, derived from the smallpox vaccine, underwent rigorous testing and has been authorized for use in emergency situations. So, calling it experimental is like saying a well-seasoned chef is trying out new recipes when they’re just making dinner!
This vaccine has a history too: it was approved in Canada and the EU in 2013 for smallpox prevention, and later adapted for Mpox prevention. By 2022, it received the nod from the European Union for the same purpose. Essentially, this isn’t some fly-by-night operation; it’s an established vaccine being utilized in response to a public health need.
Wrapping It Up
don’t let the noise from dubious social media posts and sensational narratives drown out the facts. The Mpox vaccine is safe, effective, and anything but experimental. It’s backed by health authorities and has a solid track record. Next time you hear something outrageous about vaccines, remember to check the source before you jump aboard the misinformation train!
