Sony HDR-CX680 is a popular digital camera with optical image stabilization. It also has a built-in USB cable, which is really convenient. An error-like warning was displayed when shooting with my CX680, so I would like to share it with you. The conclusion seems to be that the format of the built-in data is different.

Memory warning message

As shown in the image above, when shooting, an orange, memory-like icon with a cross is flashing in the center of the LCD screen. But I can take pictures. It is. Even so, sometimes an error occurs when transferring a very short file to a PC, making it impossible to read it. However, I am basically able to shoot.

Built-in memory cannot be recognized. Please format it before use.
The internal memory of this unit is in a different format than when shipped. You may be able to use it by performing[Format]. In that case all data will be deleted.

That’s what it says. Certainly, since I am connecting it to a PC and manipulating various folders, I may have inserted a different format.

So, I think it actually means that there are different file formats, rather than a problem with the internal memory. However, you may need to clean it once in a while and format it.

**Interview with Tech Expert John Carter⁢ on Memory Card ⁣Errors in⁢ Sony‌ Handycam Cameras**

**Interviewer:** Thank you for joining us today, John! There have‌ been ⁢reports ⁣about‍ users encountering ‍”reinsert memory card” errors on the Sony Handycam models, particularly the HDR-CX405 and HDR-CX680.⁣ Can you ⁤explain what might be causing these issues?

**John Carter:** Thank‌ you for ⁢having me! The “reinsert memory card”⁢ error⁣ typically arises from compatibility issues between the‌ memory card and the ⁤camera. Users sometimes push the ‍card in and out multiple times, which may temporarily ‌resolve the issue by creating ⁣a ‍better connection. However, more ⁢often, the error indicates that⁢ the camera is having trouble recognizing the card due to formatting issues or physical problems with ‌the card itself.

**Interviewer:** That ⁢makes sense.⁤ You also mentioned the HDR-CX680 specifically. Can you elaborate⁤ on the built-in memory issues⁣ users face with this‌ model?

**John Carter:** Sure! The HDR-CX680 features built-in memory that can sometimes get formatted differently than when it ⁣was shipped. This is often⁤ due to users connecting the camera‌ to a PC and ‍inadvertently changing the file‌ formats. As ⁤a result, users ⁣might‍ receive a message‍ indicating that the‍ built-in memory cannot be recognized.‍ The ‌solution, in this case, involves formatting the internal memory, but it’s important to note that this‌ will erase all existing data.

**Interviewer:** ⁢Are ⁤there⁤ recommended steps users can take to avoid these errors in the future?

**John Carter:** Absolutely! First, make sure you’re using high-quality, ⁣compatible memory cards as specified ⁤by Sony. Regularly format your memory cards and built-in memory within the camera settings, rather⁣ than through a computer, ⁣to maintain compatibility. Moreover,⁣ cleaning the contacts on the memory card periodically can ⁢also help. If the problem persists, consider reaching⁣ out ⁣to Sony’s support for further assistance.

**Interviewer:** Great tips, John! ‍What do you recommend ⁢if someone ⁣encounters the error again after trying these solutions?

**John Carter:**⁤ If the error continues, I would recommend backing up any accessible files immediately and then performing a‍ complete format of the memory card or internal storage. If that doesn’t resolve the issue, the‌ card may be faulty, or there could be a ‍malfunction with the camera itself. In such⁣ cases, contacting Sony’s customer service or seeking professional repair is the best course of action.

**Interviewer:** Thank you, John. Your insights are incredibly helpful for users dealing with these tricky‌ memory issues on their ⁢Sony Handycams!

**John Carter:** My pleasure! It’s always ‍important to understand your devices better so you⁣ can avoid frustrating errors and enjoy capturing your moments.
