The Palestinian director, who came to Pakistan on the occasion of the World Culture Festival, while talking to the media said that her new drama “Tubasi Ki Zindagi” highlights various aspects of the Palestinian struggle. According to him, the play presents the different methods, such as armed and cultural resistance, for the Palestinian people to achieve their rights.
He said that the drama does not give precedence to any method over the other but it is a story of a person who finds different ways of his freedom.
He further said that the people of Pakistan know very well that oppression is going on in Palestine by Israel, which is supported by Britain, America and European countries.
He said that the Palestinian people in the West Bank and the 1948 territories continue to face apartheid and military occupation. In the Jenin refugee camp, where the play’s main character lives, the Israeli army attacks, bombards and kills children every week.
The director said that Palestinian journalists and artists are specifically targeted in Israel to suppress their voices. The producer of their theater has been imprisoned, and the co-founder murdered, while other colleagues continue to suffer persecution.
He said that there are strict restrictions on raising voice in favor of Palestine in Europe and America, even for waving the Palestinian flag, the police tortures them.
He described his experience in Pakistan as pleasant and positive and said that it was a welcome and refreshing feeling to hear and understand the issue seriously from the people of Pakistan.
The drama “And Here I Am” presented an engaging narrative that beautifully blended reality and imagination, tragedy and comedy. The story is based on Tubasi’s personal life experiences and the common struggle of Palestinians, in which he reflects on his journey from youth to adulthood. His role in the play highlights the hardships in the lives of Palestinians and their determination.
