On the occasion of National Unity Day and Armed Forces Day, the President of the Senate, Ignazio La Russa, participated in the commemorative ceremony at the Military Memorial of Redipuglia, in the province of Gorizia. La Russa, representing the President of the Republic, paid homage to the fallen of the First World War, remembering the sacrifice of those who lost their lives during the conflict. To welcome La Russa, at the base of the monument dedicated to the fallen soldiers, were the Minister for Relations with Parliament, Luca Ciriani, and General Maurizio Riccò, representative of the Army Chief of Staff and military authority present. The ceremony took place in an atmosphere of contemplation, with a solemn sequence which saw the President of the Senate cross the path known as the “heroic route” up to the chapel of the Duke of Aosta, a symbolic place where a crown of laurel and where those present observed a minute’s silence, with the Russian, welcomed by the applause of the citizens present, who knelt on the occasion.
