**Interview with Sarah Thompson, Chair of the Holyoke License Board**
**Interviewer:** Thank you for joining us today, Sarah. We’re here to discuss the upcoming license board hearing on November 4, 2024. Can you tell us what’s on the agenda for that meeting?
**Sarah Thompson:** Absolutely! The agenda is quite comprehensive this month. We have several noteworthy applications, including a transfer of an all-alcohol on-premises license for Laudable Productions LLC at 92 Race St. This will allow them to enhance their operations by providing alcoholic beverages to patrons on-site.
**Interviewer:** That sounds interesting! And I noticed that the Sixty-Six Corporation is continuing their application for a new seasonal all-alcohol license. Can you provide some insights into why this license is still under consideration?
**Sarah Thompson:** Yes, the Sixty-Six Corporation has been in discussions with the board since early September. The seasonal all-alcohol license is important for venues that cater to summer crowds or events. We’re carefully weighing the specifics of their application and the potential impact on the local community.
**Interviewer:** There seems to be a significant number of special one-day licenses being requested as well. Why are these becoming more common?
**Sarah Thompson:** One-day licenses are great for local businesses and organizations. They allow venues to serve alcohol temporarily during special events—be it fundraisers, weddings, or community gatherings. We have several applications this month from the Holyoke Community College, Ronald McDonald House, and others, which reflects the community’s vibrant events calendar.
**Interviewer:** There’s also a temporary open-air license application for Crozie’s Cones. How does this differ from typical licenses?
**Sarah Thompson:** An open-air license allows businesses to serve their products outside, which is particularly appealing in warmer months. It enhances customer experience by providing outdoor seating and service. It’s great to see small businesses like Crozie’s Cones seeking to expand their offerings.
**Interviewer:** Shifting focus to motor vehicle licenses, can you tell us the importance of renewing these licenses for local businesses?
**Sarah Thompson:** Renewing motor vehicle licenses is crucial for shops and service centers as it ensures they remain compliant with regulations. This enables them to continue providing vital services to the community—whether it’s automotive repair or sales.
**Interviewer:** Lastly, for those looking to participate in the hearing, how can they do so?
**Sarah Thompson:** We encourage community participation! The meeting will be held at City Hall Annex on November 4 at 5:15 P.M. For those unable to attend in person, we’re providing a Zoom option. The details, including meeting ID and call-in information, are available on our website.
**Interviewer:** Thank you, Sarah, for sharing these insights. It sounds like a busy meeting ahead!
**Sarah Thompson:** Thank you for having me! We’re excited to engage with the community and hear various perspectives on these applications.
